With the football season over, fans are now looking ahead to the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June. There’s plenty of exciting football content dropping on Netflix in the run up to the world cup, including Norway: The Dark Horse, coming to Netflix on June 9, a docuseries that goes behind the scenes of the Norway men’s team, who with their world class striker Erling Haaland, will be looking to cause a major upset at the World Cup.
Norway: The Dark Horse is an upcoming Netflix Original sports docuseries directed by Emil Trier, with Novmberfilm the production studio behind the series and Vidar Lien Amundsen as the producer.
The two episode docuserues, which will be released on June 9, 2026, will take audiences behind the scenes on and off the field with the Norwegian men’s football team, as they prepare for their first World Cup tournament since 1998, a 28 year wait that came to an end thanks to the likes of their star striker Erling Haaland (Manchester City), captain Martin Ødegaard (Arsenal), Antonio Nusa (RB Leipzig), Oscar Bobb (Fulham), and Alexander Sørloth (Atlético Madrid), and led by head coach Ståle Solbakken.

Thanks to their star power, and incredible record in the World Cup Qualifiers (8-0-0, 24 Pts), Norway has positioned itself as the “Dark Horse” of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as they dream of reaching the pinnacle of international football and claim a first World Cup win for their country. But first they will have to overcome France, one of the favourites and two time winner, the African powerhouse Senegal who won the controversial 2025 African Cup of Nations but was overuled after their players refused to return from their dressing room after walking off due to a controversial VAR decision, and Iraq.

Director Emil Trier had the following to say about the documentary:
“This is the story of a team – and an entire country – that has waited far too long to return to a major tournament. The ambition was to show the details of this team’s journey through the qualifiers, and how the road suddenly changes when you have to prepare for a World Cup,”
