Well, that didn’t take very long.
“Drop Dead,” the first single of off Olivia Rodrigo‘s hotly anticipated third album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, dropped last night, and it’s Grammy odds are very much alive.
With the record already sitting in second place for likely nominations for Album of the Year (despite not being out until June 12), “Drop Dead” hit the internet last night, complete with a music video filmed at Versailles by photographer Petra Collins, and the it’s chance are already climbing in the song-specific categories.
In both Song of the Year and Record of the Year, “Drop Dead” sits just outside the Top 10, at No. 11 at the time of publication.

In Song of the Year, “Drop Dead” has climbed 13 percentage points, landing just ahead of Sienna Spiro’s “Die on This Hill,” one of the breakout hits of this year.
If Rodrigo’s track record is any indication, we can expect to see “Drop Dead” make it into both categories. Both of the lead singles from her previous albums, “Vampire” from 2023’s Guts and the sensation “Drivers License” from 2021’s Sour, were nominated in Song of the Year and Record of the Year. While Rodrigo shockingly blanked on her Guts nominations, “Drivers License” won Best Pop Solo Performance.
Assuming “Drop Dead” does make it into the field of likely nominees in those individual categories, Rodrigo would be facing off against some of the biggest names in popular music, who are already staking out spots on the lineup.
There’s the reigning Best New Artist — an award Rodrigo won in 2022 — Olivia Dean, who seems poised to follow up her first big Grammys with another, riding the success of her single “The Man I Need.” Another newer artist, Raye, has also found herself near or at the top of Record and Song of the Year with “Where Is My Husband.”
And, as always, there’s Taylor Swift, who remains a Grammys force to be reckoned with. Her “Fate of Ophelia” continues hanging on to number three in both categories, despite debuting in October and some waining enthusiasm for the album, The Life of a Showgirl.
