Big Brother interview: Angela Murray as Jennifer Coolidge trashes Barrett

Welcome to Reality Derby, Gold Derby’s deep dive into all things reality TV, hosted by senior editors Marcus James Dixon and Denton Davidson. Watch the latest episode above.

Big Brother fan favorite Angela Murray was shockingly eliminated from the house on Thursday in a 3-2 vote over Dee Valladares. Now, in an exclusive Gold Derby interview, she is impersonating Jennifer Coolidge (as she often did in the house) to trash the person responsible for her ouster, Barrett Pfeiffer.

“What were you thinking? You had it so good!” she rasps in the Emmy-winning actress’ voice. “You were so insulated and now you have Dee coming after you. It’s going to be very, very bad.”

Angela acknowledges her emotions were heightened inside the house, which led to “some heated arguments” with Jason De Puy, Haley Thogmartin, and Yash Patel, to name a few. “It’s a large house and there are a lot of moving parts,” she explains. “Sometimes the walls start to close in on you a bit, and it feels like it’s the most important thing in that moment. It is stressful, it is impactful to your emotions, and sometimes you just have to let it out.”

The Utah-based real estate agent adds, “I play with my heart on my sleeve, I play a very emotional game, and I just wouldn’t have it any other way. It’s unapologetically me in the house and in those moments and circumstances. Is that me in everyday life? No! I can walk away. I never have to see you again if we have a disagreement. But here, I have to live with you, I have to share a bathroom with you. We’re going to have it out and then we’re going to try to see what we can do to repair it — or not.”

Angela made some noticeable changes to her gameplay between Seasons 26 and 28, including crying less and aligning with strong people. “I wanted to be a member of an alliance that I could trust, and that they trusted me, and that we could move forward in the game together and pivot where we needed to, and play strong and have fun and take people out.” Her goal was to “live that Big Brother dream” that she always envisioned while sitting on her couch.

“I’m so, so happy I got to do it again,” Angela smiles. “Season 28 was my redemption year and I’m very, very proud that I made it as far as I have. I wasn’t supposed to make it that far, but I did and I’m so, so proud of that.”

Her “most favorite” moment was aligning with the Survivor icons, Dee and Rick Devens. “It could have gone either way,” she confesses. “We could have meshed well or they could have stayed together and said, ‘We don’t want you.’ They were a little hesitant to want to work with me, but Dee said she felt a vibe, and Devens felt a vibe, and we were good. … That was pretty freaking cool.”

As for her “least favorite” moment? “Probably flipping that vote on Haley and having to deal with that aftermath for almost two or three weeks,” she recalls. (For the record, Haley has forgiven her, telling Gold Derby, “I would’ve loved to give Angela one more hug.”)

After appearing on two seasons of Big Brother and one season of The Amazing Race, Angela is having second thoughts about completing the CBS reality-show trifecta with Survivor, especially after talking to Dee and Devens.

“I wanted to … maybe I still do,” she admits. “I think that would be an adventure of a lifetime. If I were ever gifted such an opportunity, I would never say no. I would be there in a heartbeat. I would love it and I would play my heart out as well.”

Angela and LaTrice “Lala” Verrett are the first two members of the BB28 jury who will vote to decide the winner of the $750K grand prize on Oct. 1.
