Last than a month after shaking up several Grammy races with her third solo LP, Lost Weekend, Phoebe Bridgers is throwing her hat into the ring for Best Song at next year’s Academy Awards.
The four-time Grammy Award winner is not only making her feature film debut in Primetime, the To Catch a Predator dramatization starring Robert Pattinson as Chris Hansen, she’s also contributing an original song to the soundtrack.
“On Video,” written and performed by Bridgers, will play as the film’s end title track, making it eligible for Best Song. The tune, which has not been officially released as of this story, was reportedly inspired by composer Ari Balouzian’s work on Primetime‘s score.
In conjunction with the news about Bridgers and “On Video,” A24 Music released the first cut from the soundtrack, “Savior,” one of 24 original tracks from the score.
Bridgers will be entering into a Best Song race that has already drawn some big names — like Taylor Swift, Travis Scott (with Christopher Nolan), Lin-Manuel Mirand, Diane Warren, and David Byrne — but has yet to find a runaway favorite quite like last year’s winner, “Golden” from KPop Demon Hunters.
Primetime had its world premiere last week at the Venice Film Festival and debuted to rave reviews—especially when it comes to Pattinson, who is already considered to be a serious contender for Best Actor. The film, which is directed by Lance Oppenheim (who also has You Can See Everything out this year), is set for release by A24 on Sept. 25.
