The Golden Globes is adding to its voting body — and for the first time ever, journalists working for U.S.-based outlets are being invited to join.
Invitations have been sent out to potential new members, who have been asked to accept the offer within the month. The addition of new voters will bring the voting body from its current total of 400 to 500 overall.
“We are thrilled to continue expanding our global voting body, reaffirming our commitment to greater representation of voices and perspectives worldwide to our show. Expanding our voting body is a key priority, and we are dedicated to making meaningful strides this year,” a spokesperson for the Golden Globes said in a statement to Gold Derby. “Last year we proudly grew our membership to 400 voters, and this year, we anticipate reaching a milestone of 500 members. The selection process remains open to qualified journalists from around the world, with voters carefully chosen by the Golden Globes Board to ensure the integrity and inclusivity of the process.”
The Golden Globes have always had U.S.-based journalists among its voting body, but they had to work for overseas outlets. This new effort means that reporters and writers writing for U.S. publications can now be considered for Globes membership.
The Golden Globes recently announced the complete timeline and campaign guidelines for the upcoming 84th annual awards. Nominations will be announced on Dec. 7, followed by the ceremony on Jan. 10.
Golden Globes producer Dick Clark Productions is owned by Penske Media Eldridge, a joint venture between Eldridge and Penske Media Corporation, which owns Gold Derby.
