Amazon Launches 30-Minute Delivery Service for Groceries and Essentials Across Multiple U.S. Cities

Amazon has introduced Amazon Now, an ultra-fast delivery option that brings thousands of fresh groceries, household essentials, and other everyday items to customers’ doors in 30 minutes or less. The service became available to millions of customers in the United States on May 12, 2026, with plans for rapid expansion to reach tens of millions more by the end of the year. This rollout represents the latest step in the company’s efforts to accelerate delivery times for time-sensitive purchases.

The service is now widely accessible in major metropolitan areas including Atlanta, Dallas-Fort Worth, Philadelphia, and Seattle. Additional cities seeing rapid rollout include Austin, Houston, Minneapolis, Orlando, Phoenix, Denver, and Oklahoma City, among dozens of others. In most locations where Amazon Now operates, deliveries run around the clock, seven days a week, allowing customers to order at any hour.

Amazon Now focuses on high-demand, urgent-need products. Shoppers can select from categories such as dairy and eggs, fresh produce, bakery items, health and personal care products, baby supplies, pet food and accessories, electronics, and alcohol in areas where sales are permitted. The selection also includes locally relevant items and features personalized recommendations based on customer preferences. Examples of popular choices include milk, eggs, fruits and vegetables, laundry detergent, toothpaste, diapers, and over-the-counter medicines.

To achieve such short delivery windows, the company relies on a network of smaller fulfillment locations positioned close to residential and commercial areas. These sites are designed specifically for quick order picking, packing, and dispatch. The approach minimizes travel distances for delivery partners while prioritizing safety in the preparation process. Orders are fulfilled from these specialized hubs rather than larger warehouses, enabling the compressed timeline.

Pricing for Amazon Now includes a delivery fee of $3.99 per order for Prime members. Non-members pay $13.99 per delivery. An additional small-order fee applies for purchases under $15, set at $1.99 for Prime members and $3.99 for others. Prime membership itself costs $14.99 per month or $139 annually, with reduced rates available for qualifying young adults aged 18 to 24 and recipients of certain government assistance programs.

Customers access the service through the Amazon shopping app or website. When available in their area, a dedicated 30-Minute Delivery option appears prominently in the app banner and search results. A dedicated page at amazon.com/now allows users to verify local availability and browse the full selection.

This new offering builds on Amazon’s existing fast-delivery infrastructure. It sits alongside Prime Air drone deliveries, which provide under-60-minute service in select suburban locations using autonomous technology; one-hour and three-hour delivery options covering more than 90,000 items; and same-day delivery available in over 10,000 cities and towns nationwide. Amazon Now targets the most immediate needs in densely populated zones, while the broader network handles wider selections and more rural coverage.

The launch occurs against a backdrop of significant growth in Amazon’s fast-delivery volumes. In 2025, the company delivered more than 13 billion items on the same or next day to Prime members globally. In the United States alone, that figure exceeded 8 billion items, marking a more than 30 percent increase from the previous year. Groceries and everyday essentials accounted for roughly half of those U.S. deliveries. Fresh and perishable grocery items have become increasingly popular, with same-day options for such products now extending to more than 2,300 cities and towns through related services.

A recent feature addition for Prime members, known as Add to Delivery, further streamlines the experience by allowing one-tap inclusion of items into existing or upcoming orders. This complements Amazon Now by making it easier to incorporate last-minute needs into planned shipments.

Industry observers note that the expansion aligns with broader consumer demand for convenience in grocery and essential-item shopping. By placing fulfillment points nearer to end users, Amazon aims to reduce wait times without compromising order accuracy or partner safety. The company has indicated that availability will continue to grow throughout 2026 as additional cities come online.

For now, shoppers in supported regions can test the service immediately by checking their local Amazon app or website. As rollout progresses, more households will gain access to this tier of rapid delivery, potentially reshaping expectations for urgent household replenishment. Amazon has not disclosed specific timelines for every new market but has confirmed the goal of covering tens of millions of customers nationwide before the close of the year.

The introduction of Amazon Now underscores the competitive emphasis on speed in e-commerce fulfillment. With thousands of items available at a moment’s notice, the service addresses scenarios ranging from dinner preparation to travel preparations or sudden household shortages. Customers in the initial cities have already begun using the platform, and further expansion is expected to follow the established pattern of phased metropolitan additions.

Overall, the development highlights ongoing investments in localized logistics networks. By combining proximity-based fulfillment with established membership benefits, Amazon positions the service as a practical solution for immediate needs while maintaining integration with its larger delivery ecosystem. As more regions activate Amazon Now, the total addressable customer base will expand significantly, offering a new level of immediacy for routine and emergency purchases alike.
