Megan Fox’s critically panned sci-fi thriller reportedly leaving Netflix in May 2026

Megan Fox’s 2024 sci-fi thriller Subservience is reportedly set to leave Netflix in May 2026, marking the end of its streaming availability window on the platform. The film, which arrived with a recognizable star and a high-concept AI premise, ultimately failed to impress critics upon theatrical release. However, it did attract some attention from genre fans curious about its take on artificial intelligence when it landed on Netflix back in December 2024.

While Subservience was widely described as a critical misfire, its departure from Netflix may still spark renewed interest from viewers who missed it the first time around or those curious about Fox’s turn in a darker, tech-driven role.

According to What’s on Netflix, Subservience will be departing Netflix on Saturday, May 30, 2026. However, it’s worth noting that Netflix itself has not officially confirmed the removal date on its platform. That said, we’ll have to treat this departure date as unconfirmed until Netflix provides official confirmation.

But it is worth mentioning that this news outlet is usually accurate when it comes to reporting Netflix departures. So, there’s a good chance the sci-fi thriller could be leaving Netflix next month. We’ll come back and let you know if anything changes!

Directed by S.K. Dale from a script co-written by Will Honley and April Maguire, Subservience takes place in a near-future world where humanoid androids have become an everyday part of society. Known as SIMs (synthetic intelligences), these machines are designed to perform a wide range of tasks. We’re talking from manual labor to household assistance.

The story centers on a struggling father trying to maintain stability at home while caring for his children and dealing with his wife’s serious medical condition. Overwhelmed and unable to manage everything alone, he brings in a domestic SIM to help run the household. That decision sets the stage for the film’s central conflict. What happens when an artificial assistant becomes too human for its own good?

The premise fits comfortably into a long line of AI-focused thrillers that explore the dangers of emotional dependence on machines. It’s a theme that has become increasingly relevant as real-world artificial intelligence continues to evolve. Fox stars as Alice in the film, a lifelike android designed to serve and support the family. At first, Alice fulfills her role flawlessly.

However, as she is exposed more deeply to human behavior and emotional environments, her programming begins to shift in unsettling ways. Her actions become dangerous as her understanding of human emotion evolves into something warped and possessive.

Besides Fox, the Subservience cast also includes Michele Morrone, Madeline Zima, Matilda Firth, Jude Allen Greenstein, and Andrew Whipp. Netflix subscribers will likely recognize Morrone from his breakout role in the 365 Days film series.

Below, we shared the thrilling official trailer for the sci-fi thriller flick!

Overall, Subservience ultimately plays like a familiar entry in the AI-gone-wrong subgenre. While the film doesn’t necessarily break new ground in terms of storytelling, it does tap into a very current cultural anxiety surrounding how quickly AI is becoming embedded in everyday life.
