Consumer Cellular Expands SpeakEasy With New Connected Care Service for Older Adults

Consumer Cellular is giving its SpeakEasy wireless brand a bigger job. The company has launched SpeakEasy Connect Care+, a new connected-care service built directly into its SpeakEasy phones. The service is designed for adults 75 and older who want to stay independent while giving family members a little more peace of mind.

Rather than asking an older adult to carry another medical or tracking device, SpeakEasy Connect Care+ works through the SpeakEasy phone they already use. Family members or other trusted contacts can then use the companion app on their own iPhone or Android phone. They don’t need to be SpeakEasy or Consumer Cellular customers themselves.

The service includes several tools that could be useful for families helping an older parent or relative from a distance, including:

  • Location sharing and location updates
  • Safety areas and scheduled alerts
  • Activity and location history
  • Simple check-ins
  • Mood updates
  • Device and battery information on supported phones
  • A tool for finding a misplaced phone
  • Support for up to two trusted contacts

With SpeakEasy, customers choose what information they share, can change those settings, and can turn sharing off at any time. Basically, it allows older adults to remain in control.

SpeakEasy Is Quickly Becoming More Than a Phone Brand

The new service arrives just a little more than two months after Consumer Cellular introduced SpeakEasy in June.

Consumer Cellular launched SpeakEasy on June 22 as a standalone wireless brand built specifically for adults 75 and older. The lineup initially included two devices: the SpeakEasy Flip, a simplified flip phone with large buttons and an extra-loud speaker, and the SpeakEasy Smart, a smartphone with a simplified interface and large, easy-to-use controls.

SpeakEasy gives older adults phones that are easier to use without forcing them into stripped-down wireless plans or complicated technology. Now Consumer Cellular is adding connected-care features to that same platform, turning SpeakEasy into something closer to a wireless and family-support service rather than simply a line of senior-friendly phones.

If you’ve been considering making a switch, the current SpeakEasy lineup includes a couple of inexpensive phone options and plans starting below $20 per month:

  • SpeakEasy Flip: $79.95, down from $119.95
  • SpeakEasy Smart: $99.95, down from $149.95
  • Connect plan: $14.95/month with 500MB of data
  • Connect+ plan: $19.95/month with 3GB of data
  • Connect Care+: $34.99/month with unlimited talk and text plus 5GB of data

SpeakEasy is also currently offering two months of service free with a phone purchase. Taxes, fees, and a $10 one-time activation fee apply. Connect Care+ is available now, and its connected-care features vary depending on which SpeakEasy phone is being used. The Smart model offers more location and device information, while the Flip provides a simpler version of the experience.

It’s Been a Busy Summer for Consumer Cellular

The SpeakEasy expansion is the latest move for Consumer Cellular after a busy summer. Just three days after launching SpeakEasy, the company opened its 100th company-owned retail store on June 25 in Salem, Oregon. The company now has stores across 33 states and plans to reach 120 locations by the end of 2026.

With the retail expansion, Consumer Cellular continues to go against the industry’s push toward digital-only sales. The company said retail customer acquisitions grew 83% year over year during the first quarter of 2026, while customers acquired through stores had a higher retention rate.

Even though SpeakEasy is aimed specifically at adults 75 and older, Consumer Cellular still has its broader lineup of wireless plans and phones for older adults and families. Plans at Consumer Cellular start at $20 per month, and AARP members receive 5% off monthly service. Plus, the company promotes a 30-day risk-free guarantee on some of its current offers, allowing new customers to cancel without paying for service within the trial period, subject to the applicable data-use limits.

Anyone shopping for a cheaper wireless plan, helping an older family member switch carriers, or looking for a phone that doesn’t require learning a pile of complicated features can check out the latest Consumer Cellular plans, phones, and current deals on the company’s website.
