Hey, Nathan For You fans — Nathan Fielder has something new for you. The impish filmmaker teams up with Lance Oppenheim for You Can See Everything, a provocative portrait of controversial Theranos founder, Elizabeth Holmes. The three-hour film had its secret world premiere screening at the Telluride Film Festival on Sunday night, with a theatrical release planned for October.

Right after the Telluride screening, A24 dropped a nearly minute-and-a-half long teaser trailer for the film, which finds Holmes insisting to Fielder, “Of course I’m not deceiving you, I’m engaging with you as a human being. Why would I deceive you? There’s no reason for me to do that.”

“Okay,” Fielder replies with no small amount of incredulity, before asking, “You’re being real right now?” Without hesitating, Holmes says: “I’m always being real.”

As early reviews indicate, there’s more — much more — that happens as the two get to know each other. Watch the teaser trailer above and read on for everything to know about You Can See Everything.

The plot

Here’s the official logline from A24: “Thirty-four days before she’s sent to prison, notorious Silicon Valley founder Elizabeth Holmes invites a skeptical film crew to document her every move. What begins as an intimate portrait of an enigmatic felon becomes a mind-bending three-year journey into the abyss. From boundary-pushing directors Nathan Fielder and Lance Oppenheim comes You Can See Everything.”

The cast and creative team

Besides Holmes and Fielder, the founder’s partner, Billy Evans, plays a substantial role in the documentary. The producing team includes Fielder, Oppenheim, Tatiana Bears, Maggie Ambrose, and Jack Davis.

The awards prospects

Thanks to its high profile star, You Can See Everything is likely going to make its presence felt in the Best Documentary Feature race. Fielder has four Emmy nods for his series The Rehearsal and How To With John Wilson, both of which also put unique spins on the documentary format, while Oppenheim will be on the awards circuit for his well-reviewed narrative feature, Primetime, starring Best Actor contender, Robert Pattinson. At the same time, the Academy’s documentary branch has traditionally been skeptical of nominating features that are celebrity-focused or celebrity-adjacent, even celebrities of dubious distinction like Holmes. We’ll see if the Fielder factor can help overcome that resistance.

The release date

A24 will release You Can See Everything in theaters in October.
