What manga adaptations are coming to Netflix in 2026 and beyond? Following our preview of comic book adaptations coming up, here are all live-action and animated adaptations confirmed and in development.
Netflix has made big swings in manga adaptations over the years, with its biggest success being the live-action series One Piece, which will return for its third season, subtitled The Battle of Alabasta, in 2027. Other huge successes for the streamer include Alice in Borderland and Yu Yu Hakusho. That said, not all adaptations became instant hits; look no further than the critical disappointments of Cowboy Bebop (2021 series) and Death Note (2017 movie).
Despite a couple of bumps in the road, the landscape of Netflix manga adaptations is mostly positive. Looking ahead, the streamer has a ton of adaptations either confirmed or in development. Below we’ve compiled the Netflix Original manga adaptation roadmap for 2026 and beyond.

The Ribbon Hero

Status: Coming to Netflix on August 8, 2026
The first-ever feature film of acclaimed animator Yuki Igarashi (known for Star Wars: Visions), The Ribbon Hero is a modern adaptation of Osamu Tezuka’s legendary 1953 manga Princess Knight.
The story follows displaced princess Sapphire, the former princess of Silverland, who must take up the sword to defend her new home, Goldland, from a returning calamity, known as Nergal.
“For this film, I poured in my respect for Osamu Tezuka, the creator of Princess Knight; for Ichizo Kobayashi of the Takarazuka Revue, which lies at the root of the work; and for the supreme, classic entertainment they brought into the world,” Igarashi said in a statement. “They also created their works while overcoming hardships such as infectious diseases and war, and those works became the very foundation of our culture. To everyone living in this era, I hope you enjoy this blood‑stirring, heart‑pounding piece of what I believe is ‘true’ mainstream entertainment.”

One Piece is undeniably Netflix’s flagship manga adaptation. The live-action adaptation of beloved manga and anime One Piece could’ve gone two ways — there was apprehension from the outset. However, the series instantly won over the majority of viewers. It was definitely helped by the direct involvement of the original creator, Eiichiro Oda.
It had a heap of pressure to deliver; we’re talking about an adaptation of one of the most popular anime series of all-time. It effortlessly captured the magic in live action, retaining the wacky, irreverent, and whimsical elements of the original. Iñaki Godoy as Captain of the Straw Hats, Monkey D. Luffy, was a golden casting.
As of May 2026, One Piece Season 3 is currently filming in South Africa. The next installment, titled The Battle of Alabasta, is confirmed to arrive in 2027.

The movie debuted to strong ratings, and Netflix has officially green-lit a sequel, which is slated to premiere in 2027. The first movie spent three weeks in the streamer’s global top 10 charts.
Production on the sequel began in March 2026 with star Ryohei Suzuki returning as Ryo Saeba, alongside Misato Morita as Kaori Makimura. “The previous film depicted the origin story between Ryo and Kaori,” said Ryohei Suzuki teased. “In this sequel, we’re delivering what you might call the City Hunter — the most quintessential version of City Hunter yet.”
Sakamoto Days (Season 2)

Status: Expected in 2027
Sakamoto Days is based on the manga written and illustrated by Yuto Suzuki, which follows hitman Taro Sakamoto, who vows to live a quieter life as a family man, only to be unwittingly thrust back into action when an old adversary resurfaces. The debut season premiered in two parts across 2025, totalling 22 episodes. It was a huge success on the streamer, reaching #2 non-English TV show globally at its peak.
Netflix has officially renewed Sakamoto Days for Season 2. It’s expected to debut in 2027, although a release date has not been confirmed.
Dan Da Dan (Season 3)

Status: Expected in 2027
DanDaDan is an adaptation of the manga written and illustrated by Yukinobu Tatsu. The story follows two high-school students, Momo, a believer in the supernatural, and Okarun, who believes in the paranormal. With the pair denying each other’s beliefs, one fateful night exposes them to both worlds when they each run into a vengeful spirit and over-inquisitive aliens.
The series has been one of Netflix’s strongest-performing weekly anime shows alongside Sakamoto Days, and fans can’t wait for more episodes. When season 3 drops, it’s sure to ascend the global top ten charts.
My Hero Academia (Live-action movie)

Status: Filming in 2026
In November 2025, we reported that Netflix’s live-action My Hero Academia movie was officially ready to begin filming in 2026 with Alice in Borderland director Shinsuke Sato on board to helm the picture.
Created by Kohei Horikoshi, My Hero Academia is regarded as one of the best and most celebrated manga series out there. It has already been made into a beloved, long-running anime, but never been adapted into a live-action feature film. The official plot description reads: “Izuku Midoriya, a superhero fanboy, was born quirkless in a world where 80% of the population has manifested ‘ quirks’ that grant superpowers. His dreams of attending a prestigious high school for aspiring superheroes are shattered, but that all changes after a chance encounter with the greatest superhero of the era, All Might.”
The Netflix movie is being written by esteemed screenwriter Jason Fuchs, who’s best known for Wonder Woman (2017) and serving as co-showrunner on HBO’s IT: Welcome to Derry.
No casting has been announced for the movie, but it is expected to begin filming in Fall 2026.
Bet (Season 2)

Status: Renewed and in filming in 2026
Based on the manga Kakegurui – Compulsive Gambler by Homura Kawamoto and Tōru Naomura, Bet debuted on Netflix in 2025. The series takes place in an elite private school where gambling determines social status.
The seminal work has been adapted into a popular 2-season anime and even two live-action films. With another season on the way, the Netflix series has the opportunity to delve deeper into the story than any other adaptation.
Bet Season 2 is expected to begin filming in June 2026. Netflix has not set a release date, but sometime in 2027 seems a solid estimate.
Last Samurai Standing (Season 2)

Status: Renewed
After the success of battle-royale dramas Squid Game and Alice in Borderland, Netflix returned to the genre in 2025 with a new show, Last Samurai Standing, based on the manga by Katsumi Tatsuzawa. Set in 1870s Japan, it follows the disgraced samurai stripped of their privileges in the Meiji era. In a bid to regain some honour, 300 samurai are tasked with battling it out in a brawl-turned-race across the country, where the last one standing wins an enormous cash prize.
The debut season was a standout on Netflix and was promptly renewed for a follow-up. Filming is expected to begin in 2026.
Death Note (Live-action Series)
Status: In development
Back in 2017, Netflix released a live-action Death Note film, but the picture was polarising from the outset, changing lore for the worse and completely misunderstanding the characters. The movie was one of the streamer’s biggest early disappointments. But Netflix will return to adapt Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s beloved manga. The next adaptation in development is a TV series produced by the Stranger Things creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, under their Upside Down Pictures umbrella. The series is being written by Halia Abdel-Meguid, who was previously tied to the Duffer’s adaptation of The Talisman, which is no longer happening.
The series is described as a new and original take, rather than a follow-up to the 2017 movie, although Roy Lee and Dan Lin, who produced the 2017 picture, are returning.
Death Note follows a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook that allows him to kill anyone whose name he writes down inside it. This begins his secret crusade to rid the world of crime and create a utopia.
