‘The Inbetweeners 3’ Movie Officially Confirmed by Netflix; Begins Production in the UK

Briefcase w*s rejoice! Following months of rumors, Netflix has officially confirmed that a third The Inbetweeners movie is on the way, with production officially kicking off today in the UK.

Rumors of a revival have been swirling for months, but Netflix has finally made it official. After a 12-year gap since The Inbetweeners 2 hit theaters in 2014, the streaming giant is bringing back the iconic comedy quartet for a brand-new feature film that will stream exclusively on Netflix globally.

Here is everything we know so far about The Inbetweeners 3.

Who is returning for The Inbetweeners 3?

Fans will be thrilled to hear that the core four are officially locked in. Simon Bird (Will McKenzie), James Buckley (Jay Cartwright), Blake Harrison (Neil Sutherland), and Joe Thomas (Simon Cooper) are all reprising their legendary roles as the hopelessly awkward suburbanites.

Original series creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris (who also worked on the series White Gold which Netflix picked up as an Original, albeit no longer available) are also back on board to write and direct the new film. In a statement released alongside today’s production announcement, the duo shared their excitement:

“It’s been super-fun hanging out with our friends again, and we’re going to work hard every week to ensure there are no problemos making this new film for humans.”

This won’t be the only Netflix Original project you’ll see James Buckley in over the next couple of years, either. As we recently reported, the actor is also currently filming the upcoming UK adaptation of Harlan Coben’s The Woods for the streamer.

Behind the camera, the movie is being produced by Claire Jones, alongside Banijay’s Patrick Holland and Fudge Park Productions’ Mark Lesbirel. Executive producers for the project include Caroline Levy, Caroline Leddy, Phil Gilbert, Suzanne Knight, Tom Jordan, Farhana Bhula, alongside creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley.

If this news sounds slightly familiar, it’s because the project has been an open secret for a little while now.

Back in April, The Sun scooped that a multi-million-pound deal was being finalized to bring the Noughties comedy to Netflix. At the time, an insider noted that Netflix was eager to greenlight the project after older episodes of the series found a massive second life on the streaming platform, introducing a whole new global generation to the lads’ misadventures.

The Sun also reported that the comeback could feature the wider original cast, heavily hinting that Emily Atack will reprise her fan-favorite role as Charlotte “Big Jugs” Hinchcliffe. While Netflix’s official press release today focused strictly on the main four boys, we fully expect to see some familiar Rudge Park faces pop up when the official cast list expands.

Originally broadcasting on Channel 4’s E4 network between 2008 and 2010, the coming-of-age sitcom followed the deeply embarrassing, highly relatable misadventures of four friends navigating school life, friendship, and perpetually failed romantic encounters at the fictional Rudge Park Comprehensive. Over three seasons, the show set massive ratings records and swept multiple awards. The television success spawned two heavily successful Film4-backed cinematic outings in 2011 and 2014. The first movie absolutely dominated the box office, setting a record for the biggest opening weekend for a UK comedy at the time, and the sequel followed suit by breaking even more records.

When will The Inbetweeners 3 release on Netflix?

With cameras officially rolling in the UK as of today, it’s a bit too early for Netflix to attach a firm release date. However, given standard production and post-production timelines for a comedy feature of this size, it’s highly likely we will see The Inbetweeners 3 hit our screens globally sometime in 2027.

In the meantime, this is just one of many major British titles heading to the streaming service over the next few years. For a complete look at what’s coming, check out our massive preview of every new British Netflix series and movie coming in 2027 and beyond.
