Netflix’s mobile gaming library has been in a constant state of flux over the past year, and it looks like the departures aren’t slowing down. We’ve got word that four mobile games are scheduled to leave the Netflix Games lineup by the end of September.
If you’ve been following our coverage, you’ll know that Netflix game removals aren’t exactly a shock at this point. Earlier, we reported on a massive purge that saw over 20 games—including the critically acclaimed Hades and the beloved Monument Valley trilogy—leave the platform. Now, as the tech giant continues to refine its gaming strategy, the total number of available mobile titles is shrinking a little more.
Leaving soon notices have been found on a trio of traditional titles, plus the highly ambitious live game that we’ve already covered. Here’s a rundown of the departures planned for the end of this month, along with a refresher on what each game is about:
- Shooting Hoops – Leaving September 23rd
Developer: Frosty Pop
Official Netflix Description: “A basketball with a dart gun attached? Sure, why the heck not? Fire darts in the right direction to push the ball through the hoop. Nothing but net.” - Teeter Up: Remastered – Leaving September 24th
Developer: Frosty Pop
Official Netflix Description: “Same mission, new surprises: Zip around using jetpacks, dodge rockets and more — all while guiding a ball into a hole. Can you beat gravity?”
- Ghost Detective – Leaving September 30th
Developer: Wooga (a Playtika studio)
Official Netflix Description: “You’re a detective who’s been killed on the job. Now as a ghost, your mission is clear: Find hidden objects and solve puzzles to catch your own murderer.” - Best Guess Live – Leaving September 29th/30th
Developer: Apploff Entertainment and Ex Machina
The Details: We also have to pour one out for Best Guess Live, Netflix’s grand experiment with live, real-money mobile trivia. Hosted alternately by Howie Mandel and Hunter March, the daily trivia show officially aired its final episode back on August 28th. The app will remain open through September 30th exclusively so that users can claim their outstanding payouts, though the Netflix app itself notes September 29th as the “last day to play” before it gets completely delisted.
It is worth noting that Shooting Hoops and Teeter Up: Remastered are legacy titles for the streamer. They were part of the very first wave of mobile games Netflix launched when it formally entered the gaming space back in November 2021. Their departure marks the end of an era for some of the platform’s earliest casual gaming offerings. Ghost Detective, developed by the story-driven hidden-object veterans at Wooga, is a much more recent addition that only arrived in 2023.
As we’ve mentioned before, Netflix’s gaming division has been going through a bit of a transition lately. While the company intends to continue investing in gaming, sources indicate that their efforts are shifting more heavily toward big-screen cloud experiences, massive IP acquisitions, and games based on established Netflix IP (like Too Hot to Handle and Stranger Things). Because of this, we’ve come to expect the mobile library to shrink as third-party licensing deals run their course, and experimental projects like Best Guess Live come to a close.
Previously, when we’ve contacted Netflix’s PR team for comment on these types of departures, they’ve told us: “Just like with series and film, games will be removed from Netflix as licenses expire. Players will notice a ‘Leaving Soon’ badge and be notified by the app itself well in advance of removal.”
If you’re currently in the middle of a playthrough for any of the first three titles, you’ll want to wrap up your progress before your “last day to play” hits at the end of the month! And if you were lucky enough to win a slice of the prize pool in Best Guess Live, don’t forget to hit that “Claim Your Winnings” button before the portal closes for good.
