Inside the tight 2026 Emmys limited series category

One of the tightest races at the upcoming Emmys on Sept. 14 is the Limited or Anthology Series category, with a wide-open playing field that’s dividing pundits and voters.

Nominees for the top award are “All Her Fault, “The Beast in Me,” “Beef,” “DTF St. Louis” and “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.”

Netflix’s “Beef” has a strong showing in all the acting categories, with nods for Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Charles Melton and Yuh-jung Youn. (Cailee Spaeny was snubbed). It leads the pack for overall nominations with 16.

But close behind is “DTF St. Louis,” which raked in 13 nods and even more nominated cast members including Jason Bateman (also nominated for “Black Rabbit”), David Harbour, Richard Jenkins, Linda Cardellini and Joy Sunday.

“All Her Fault” feels like it’s been in the awards conversation for a long time: Due to its 2025 release window, it competed in the Golden Globes this year. Sarah Snook and Dakota Fanning have Emmy nods for their performances in the series about the disappearance of a 5-year-old boy.

“The Beast in Me” is another crime-focused entry that competed at the Globes, with Claire Danes and Matthew Rhys both up for acting trophies.

Last but not least is Ryan Murphy‘s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette.”

All the titles have a chance.

This week, 10 Emmy voters anonymously shared their ballots with Variety as a preview of the awards as voting closed. In the limited or anthology category,  “Beef” and “DTF St. Louis” got three votes each, while “Beast in Me” had two and “All Her Fault” and “Love Story” each had one.

One voter even admitted: I did not see ‘Beef’ or ‘DTF St. Louis’ — I’m rooting for Claire Danes!,” while another huffed, “Who has time to watch all this crap?” and a third admitted, “I don’t know a single person who watches all the nominees. Who has time?” Nice!

Netflix is on a winning streak in the category, taking home the prize for “Baby Reindeer” and “Adolescence” at past ceremonies. My predictions: “Beef” for limited series or anthology, and in the acting categories, Sarah Pidgeon (“Love Story”) for actress, Isaac (“Beef”) for actor, Harbour (“DTF”) for supporting actor and Cardellini (“DTF”) for supporting actress.
