As the summer heat finally starts to break and we gear up for the Venice and TIFF film festivals, it can only mean one thing: Netflix’s Fall movie season is officially upon us. Historically, the final few months of the year are when Netflix brings out the big guns, and 2026 is certainly no exception. Whether you’re tracking major international awards contenders, looking forward to Tyler Perry’s highly anticipated return to the Why Did I Get Married? franchise, or just want to start planning your late-year holiday rom-com binge, the streamer has a massively stacked lineup waiting in the wings. Here’s your comprehensive, definitive preview of every major Netflix Original movie hitting your screens this Fall and Winter. Let’s dive in!

Note: For a few of these, we’re making educated guesses about their arrival this Fall based on previously announced release windows, recent certificate listings, and/or our intel – as a result, these titles are subject to change. We’ll keep this updated throughout September 2026 and then transition to our regular monthly release guides. We did reach out to Netflix PR to see if they wanted to help us out with a few items on this list, but heard nothing back. 

A few big titles you won’t find on this list. Of course, Greta Gerwig’s Narnia movie was ultimately pushed back to an early 2027 release, and we’re also no longer expecting Here Comes the Flood and Saturn Return, with the latter officially confirmed to premiere in 2027.

Marking the highly anticipated third installment in the Why Did I Get Married? series (following 2010’s Why Did I Get Married Too?), this new romantic comedy-drama reunites the original fan-favorite powerhouse cast, including Taraji P. Henson, Jill Scott, Michael Jai White, and Tasha Smith.

The story picks up years later as the original couples reunite to celebrate the upcoming wedding of Marcus and Angela’s daughter. However, after being apart for quite some time, they quickly learn that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Realizing their children have grown up to be exactly like them, the group is forced to reflect on the examples they’ve set and ask themselves that age-old question: Why did they get married… again?

Filmed in the Fall of 2025, production took place at the sprawling Tyler Perry Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, but also jetted off to the stunning region of Lombardy, Italy.

The film centers on Ted Kaczynski, but rather than just focusing on the bombings, it zeroes in on his early years. Jacob Tremblay (Room, Wonder) takes on his darkest role yet as a 16-year-old Kaczynski, a Harvard math prodigy who is subjected to intense and highly controversial psychological experiments at the hands of Professor Henry Murray (Academy Award winner Russell Crowe). Despite their vastly different circumstances, the two cross paths and end up forging a deep and unexpected bond.

Starring Jay Reeves (Safety, All American) alongside Naomi Baker, Tamberla Perry (They Cloned Tyrone), and Danielle Moné Truitt (Law & Order: Organized Crime), this looks like a return to Perry’s alternative dramatic, character-driven roots, which he scored well with last year with the movie Straw.

Marketed with the chilling tagline, “Power won’t protect them,” this R-rated political crime thriller centers on a Los Angeles mayoral candidate and his wife whose lives are entirely upended when their son is kidnapped. Thrown into a dangerous and sprawling web of deception, the couple must scramble to raise the ransom payment, forcing them to make impossible choices that threaten to tear their world—and their careers—completely apart.

With the script co-written by Billy Ray (Captain Phillips, Richard Jewell), and Affleck’s proven track record for directing brilliant thrillers (The Town, Argo), Animals is an absolutely fantastic follow-up to The Rip, which opened Netflix’s year up strong.

The official logline reads, “During a star-studded charity gala brimming with celebrities, billionaires and empty speeches, a movie star in the midst of an existential crisis (Chris Evans) is taken hostage by a radical warrior (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her devoted followers. As the night descends into chaos, both an inward journey and an outward adventure ensue, where the line between performance and belief, salvation and sacrifice, begins to blur.”

Just in time for the family-gathering holiday season, Netflix is delivering a massive new CGI animated feature that flips the script on one of the most famous fairytales of all time. Produced by Amy Poehler through her Paper Kite Productions banner, Steps takes the classic Cinderella story and tells it from the perspective of her highly misunderstood “evil” stepsisters.

The hilarious musical-comedy adventure centers on Lilith (voiced by comedy powerhouse Ali Wong), who gets falsely blamed for hijacking the Royal Ball with a stolen magic wand. To make matters worse, she accidentally turns her sister Margot (Oscar-nominee Stephanie Hsu) into a frog and leaves the kingdom in the hands of a power-hungry, prince-obsessed mean girl (Nikki Glaser). Now, Lilith must team up with Cinderella herself (Amanda Seyfried) and a surprisingly dreamy troll (Young Mazino) to repair the fractured fairytale, save the kingdom, and prove that even so-called villains deserve a shot at happily-ever-after.

The film has been in the works for a while, with comedy duo Riki Lindhome and Kate Micucci (Garfunkel and Oates) originally attached to write before shifting to Executive Producer roles. What really sets this one apart, though, is its star-studded voice cast. In what feels like a match made in cinematic heaven, Berg is teaming up with Imagine Entertainment to adapt Buzz Bissinger’s acclaimed nonfiction book, The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II. (Fun fact: Bissinger also wrote the original Friday Night Lights book, making this a massive reunion for the duo!)

Set in the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor, the film follows four of America’s top college football stars who set their gridiron fame aside to enlist in the Marines. As these young men prepare for the brutal and bloody invasion of Okinawa, they organize one last legendary football game on the dirt of Guadalcanal featuring some of the greatest players in history—a game that, tragically, will be the last many of them ever play.

Shot on location in Queensland, Australia, in late 2025, the film boasts a stellar ensemble cast led by Nicholas Galitzine (The Idea of You), Bill Skarsgård (It), and Ray Nicholson (Smile 2). The premise is brilliantly simple but ripe for absolute chaos: a single mother fights to keep one little promise to her daughter on the absolute worst, most disastrous day of her life.

With a script from Laura Solon (Office Christmas Party, Let It Snow) and directed by comedy veteran Jake Szymanski (who famously directed the brilliant Jury Duty and Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates), you can bet on a pretty broad and crowd-pleasing comedy. And just look at that supporting cast! The main names are joined by Sam Richardson, Ben Schwartz, Rob Corddry, and Mark Duplass.

Prepare for some stunning retro-futurism. The film is set in a gigantic, sprawling city in an alternate future, imagined from the perspective of 1939. This sweeping sci-fi noir follows private investigator Raymond Gunn, who finds himself drawn into a massive, tangled case involving aliens, murder, and a dazzling multimedia pop star named Venus Nova.

The voice cast is just as spectacular as the premise. Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell voices the titular hardboiled P.I. Raymond Gunn, while Scarlett Johansson steps into the role of superstar Venus Nova. Perhaps most exciting of all is the addition of iconic, gravelly-voiced musician Tom Waits as a character named Eyera. Blending 1930s pulp detective fiction with cutting-edge 3D CGI animation, Ray Gunn is shaping up to be Netflix’s biggest animated title for fans of the genre.

A sequel to Quentin Tarantino’s 2019 masterpiece Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood is officially coming to Netflix. The much-discussed movie sees Tarantino penning the script but notably handed directorial reins over to none other than David Fincher (The Social Network, The Killer, Mindhunter). 

While exact plot details are being kept strictly under lock and key, the film obviously centers on Brad Pitt, who is reprising his Academy Award-winning role as the dangerously cool, acid-dipped-cigarette-smoking stuntman, Cliff Booth. Joining Pitt on this new Los Angeles odyssey is an absolute powerhouse ensemble of newcomers to the franchise, including Elizabeth Debicki, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Carla Gugino, Scott Caan, and RoboCop himself, Peter Weller.

Filmed over a massive six-month shoot across Los Angeles with a blockbuster budget, Netflix is treating this like the crown jewel of their 2026 slate. The Adventures of Cliff Booth will get a prime Thanksgiving limited theatrical release on November 25th to ensure it is firmly in the Oscars race, before hitting the platform right before Christmas on December 23rd.

If there’s one film on this slate screaming “Awards Season Heavyweight,” it’s Ink. We already know Netflix has massive faith in this one, as it was recently announced that Ink will be the opening film at the 83rd Venice International Film Festival this Fall.

Directed by Academy Award winner Danny Boyle (Slumdog Millionaire, Trainspotting), the film is an adaptation of James Graham’s smash-hit stage play, with Graham himself penning the screenplay. Set in the ruthless, high-stakes world of British journalism, the story follows a brash, young Rupert Murdoch as he purchases a struggling broadsheet and sets out to transform the fortunes of the British tabloid newspaper The Sun.

Guy Pearce steps into the formidable shoes of the young media mogul Rupert Murdoch, while Jack O’Connell (Godless, Ferrari) co-stars as his famously rogue editor, Larry Lamb. Add in the always-brilliant Claire Foy (The Crown) as pioneering journalist Joyce Hopkirk, and you have a recipe for a fiery, fast-paced period drama.

While the project originally spent some time in development over at Bron Studios, it ultimately landed at Netflix in partnership with StudioCanal. It will receive a prime Oscar-qualifying theatrical run in mid-December before becoming Netflix’s first major prestige streaming drop of the new year on January 8th, 2027.

If you’ve been tracking Netflix’s European slate, you might recognize this one under its original working title, Quasimodo. Recently officially retitled (again) as The Hunchback, Soul of Paris, this sweeping historical epic is set to be one of the streaming service’s biggest international blockbusters of the Fall.

Helmed by acclaimed director Jean-François Richet, this dark and grounded drama reimagines the true life of the man who supposedly inspired Victor Hugo’s iconic titular character. The legendary Vincent Cassel leads a stellar French ensemble, playing a man caught in an increasingly impossible situation. Set against a bleak backdrop in Paris on the absolute eve of the July Revolution in 1830, the story unfolds as a deadly cholera epidemic ravages the city.
