Inspired by the real-life work of Innocence Project Brazil, Netflix’s new legal drama, Habeas Corpus, is coming on September 24, 2026. The series stars Marjorie Estiano and Any Gabrielly. Here’s everything you need to know about Habeas Corpus on Netflix.

Habeas Corpus is an upcoming Brazilian Netflix Original Portuguese-language legal drama co-created by scriptwriter Leonardo Moreira, Donna Oliveira, and the series’ overall director, Leonardo Moreira. The series is produced by Café Royal with Adriana Taveres as the executive producer.

The series was inspired by Innocence Project Brazil, an organization that investigates and overturns wrongful convictions in Brazil. Their work has helped many innocent people who had been locked behind bars walk free after spending years in jail.

When is Habeas Corpus coming to Netflix?

Netflix has officially confirmed that Habeas Corpus will be released globally on September 23, 2026.

What is the plot of Habeas Corpus?

Netflix has provided a detailed synopsis for the series:

“The story follows Inez (Marjorie Estiano), a respected law professor who leads a wrongful-conviction review group seeking to prove the innocence of a young man convicted of a crime he claims he did not commit. What Inez doesn’t know is that her brightest student, Marina (Any Gabrielly), had a secret agenda when she sought her out — to right an injustice that deeply affected her family in the past. Against the backdrop of a system shaped by inequality and power, Marina and the other students in the group find themselves caught in a dilemma driven by justice and the desire to make amends, as each new discovery triggers another twist.”

Who are the cast members of Habeas Corpus?

Marjorie Estiano and Any Gabrielly are the leads of the series.

Marjorie Estiano plays Inez. The actress has yet to star in a Netflix project, but you can find the film I’m Still Here in some Netflix libraries, where she stars. She is best known for starring in Brazilian dramas such as Under Pressure, Pages of Life, and Good Manners.

Any Gabrielly plays Marina. For her film career, the actress is best known as the Portuguese dub actress for animated films such as Moana, Sing 2, and Ralph Breaks the Internet. However, she is best known for her singing career with singles such as Waste Your Love and Sweat. She was also part of the choirs of Disney films such as Aladdin and Coco.

Other cast members confirmed for the series are:

  • Vladimir Brichta (Bingo: The King of the Mornings)
  • Danton Mello (Cabocla)
  • Natália Lage (O Homem do Ano)
  • Marisa Orth (Rainha da Sucata)
  • Naruna Costa (The Way He Looks)
