Tiffany Haddish is getting candid about a major change in her life — and she says sobriety has given her a whole new perspective.
The comedian shared an emotional reflection on X (Twitter) on Saturday, explaining that her experiences in court helped her reconsider her relationship with alcohol. She began by writing:
“Hey, I stopped drinking altogether when I realized how much bad stuff I was seeing connected to alcohol. Sitting in court really opened my eyes. Case after case — domestic violence, child abuse, theft, fighting, Grape — alcohol kept showing up somewhere in the story. And I thought, damn… what would happen if I just never drank again? So I stopped.”
As fans may recall, Haddish was arrested in Georgia in January 2022 on suspicion of DUI. Earlier this month, she pleaded in that case as part of an agreement that included a suspended driver’s license and 12 months of probation.

The Girls Trip star was arrested again on suspicion of DUI in November 2023. That case was resolved with a no-contest plea to reckless driving and another probation sentence.
But Haddish is now looking firmly toward the future — and she’s celebrating what she says are more than three years without alcohol, noting:
“Over three years later, LIFE IS AWESOME. No more waking up in pain. No more waking up next to ugly people. No more toxic relationships. And narcissists REALLY don’t like sober Tiffany because I don’t feed into the mess anymore. It’s actually funny how fast a sober mind will run a toxic soul right up out of your life.”
No kidding!
She also wondered what might happen if more people took a temporary break from drinking, reflecting on how sobriety has affected her own choices and ambitions:
“I really wonder what would happen if everybody stopped drinking for just six weeks. How many arguments wouldn’t happen? How many bad decisions wouldn’t get made? How many people wouldn’t end up in court? I can only speak for me, but giving up alcohol gave me clarity. Over three years with no alcohol, and I can see my dreams clearer than ever. And now I actually believe I’m going to make every damn one of them come true. Any Questions?!?”

Wow!
That is a powerful update. Whatever someone’s own relationship with alcohol may look like, it’s clear Haddish feels proud of the changes she has made — and hopeful about what comes next.
