New faces, cold cases — literally. Winter is coming for The Pitt, bringing with it new challenges for the doctors of the Pittsburgh Trauma Medical Center. Not to mention that Dr. Robby (Noah Wyle) is back at work from his sabbatical, and here’s hoping it did some good.
Here’s everything you need to know about Season 3 of The Pitt.
When is it set?
Four months will have passed since Dr. Robby heading off on his motorcycle, as the action picks on Nov. 12. This is the first season that will be set in the winter, so get ready for plenty of weather-related cases to plague the ED. “We wanted to plot it a little farther in the seasonal chart so that we could play with other weather … cases that come in because the weather’s cold in Pittsburgh,” Noah Wyle tells Gold Derby.
It’s also Dr. Robby’s first day back at work. So that’ll be… interesting.
“Dr. Al-Hashimi has been running the ED with double coverage with Dr. Abbot and Dr. Ellis,” Sepideh Moafi (Dr. Baran Al-Hashimi) tells Gold Derby. “It’s interesting when they meet back up again, because the last time we’d seen Dr. Al-Hashimi and Robby was that big blowout scene in Episode 15. Their reunion is interesting.”
Adds Wyle, “Robby, who’s been on a sabbatical for four months, is seemingly coming back in a better headspace. What he was doing and what happened on that journey becomes a lovely backstory for the season.”
Who’s back?
Although the Season 2 finale left her on a bit of a cliffhanger, Moafi’s Dr. Al-Hashimi is returning, which she confirmed to Gold Derby in June. “I know that I’m not going to be part of the first episode,” she said. “But it’s going to be staggered entrances. I know that we’re stepping into another wild day.”
Along with Moafi and Wyle, castmates Patrick Ball, Isa Briones, Taylor Dearden, Fiona Dourif, Shawn Hatosy, Gerran Howell, and Katherine LaNasa will all be back for another tour of duty in the ED.
Shabana Azeez, who plays Dr. Victoria Javadi, won’t be in the ED, though, since she’ll be doing her psychiatry rotation.
We’ll also be seeing a lot more of Ayesha Harris, who was promoted to series regular; she plays Dr. Parker Ellis, a resident on the night shift.
Who’s out?
Supriya Ganesh (Dr. Samira Mohan) left the show after Season 2. “It’s really meant the world to me,” Ganesh tells Gold Derby about her time on the series. “I was so surprised by how much love everyone had for her in the best way.”
Jeff Kober, who plays Duke, Robby’s motorcycle buddy, says he has yet to hear from the producers about making a return appearance, despite his Emmy nomination for guest actor. “No one’s contacted me, but maybe I die off screen,” he says laughing. “’Oh, remember Duke. Too bad!’”
Who’s been added?
The revolving door of the PTMC has also brought in a lineup of seven new faces as recurring characters, as first reported by Deadline.
Five will be patients in the emergency department: Stephen Chang will play Mitch Connor; Barry Clifton will play David “Bear” Burton; Lawrence Kao will play Harold Joslyn; Brent Sexton will play Daryl Oates; and Hannah Ware will play Charlotte Boyle.
Silicon Valley star Chris Diamontopoulos will play Dr. Asher Grossman, the CMO of PTMC, and JB Tadena will appear as Dr. Reed Thomas, a physician in the hospital.
When will it air?
The Pitt will return for its third season in January 2027.
