Courtney Love is opening up about a terrifying brush with death.
Over the weekend, the late Kurt Cobain’s ex-wife took to Instagram to talk about new music — and in doing so, revealed she “almost died” during a secret health crisis in 2019:
“I’m going to get off social and stuff because I’ve got to do some analog stuff for a few weeks. A lot of you are asking where my record is at. It’s done, my record is done. It’s kind of been done. It’s a really good record, I put a lot into it.”
She went on to reveal she went to England seven years ago, and while there, fought a very serious illness:
“I went to England in 2019, and when I went there, my body just exploded. I was in hospitals a lot, I almost died. I lost all my hair, I was about 100 pounds, and they told me I was going to die.”
OMG! That’s terrifying!
The Doll Parts singer recalled not believing the doctors partially due to a childhood memory:
“I didn’t believe them. When I was a kid, and I think this record is about this, I used to like, pattern-interrupt the adults, and they’d tell me ‘red.’ They’d say ‘red was blue,’ and then I’d see blue, but blue was blue. So now that I gaslight myself that maybe, maybe they were right and red was blue, and then I would see purple, and my head would explode. Like f**king cope with that s**t, right? I think some of you can relate to that.”
She continued:
“And then, anyway, I never really lost my ability to see that f**king red was red, despite them telling me that ‘red was blue.’ And so when they said you’re gonna die, I just didn’t believe them.”
What an incredibly abstract story! But we’re glad it helped Courtney remain strong in her fight for her life!

The rocker did not disclose the cause of her illness, but claimed she “somehow” healed:
“I’m healthy, which is amazing.”
She went on to urge fans to be patient about new music:
“I’m just figuring how to roll things out. Things are great right now … I will be back, I wasn’t public about being sick. I don’t want to be public about being sick. You know, I’m fine now.”
In her caption, Courtney added more details about the upcoming record:
“When I made it, I believed this was my last record so I made the record I always wanted to make. I was in the hospital mostly but when I wasn’t all I did was write & record it. I want to tour more than anything. & I want to sing. I’m not going to tell people red is blue anymore. Thank you for giving me the grace I need to prepare how to enter the world again.”
