Netflix Reportedly Shelves Popular SEC Football Series for Now

Netflix won’t be heading back into the SEC this fall for another season of its behind-the-scenes college football series.

According to a report from Front Office Sports, SEC Football: Any Given Saturday will not return for a second season in 2026. The SEC says the two sides have discussed bringing the series back, but no second season has been filmed.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Netflix is done with SEC football. The conference says it is still considering future opportunities with the streaming service.

“Our original plan was to do one season and then reassess,” an SEC spokesperson told Front Office Sports.

The conference also said, “We have discussed the possibility of a second season, as well as whether there may be other opportunities or approaches worth exploring.”

For now, though, SEC fans shouldn’t expect a new season of Any Given Saturday to arrive on Netflix during the 2026 college football season.

Netflix’s SEC Series Debuted Last Year

SEC Football: Any Given Saturday debuted on Netflix in August 2025, giving viewers an inside look at several SEC programs during the 2024 football season. The seven-episode series came from Box To Box Films, the production company behind Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive. The show followed 10 SEC programs, including South Carolina, LSU, Vanderbilt and Texas A&M.

Some of the conference’s biggest programs chose not to participate. Alabama, Georgia, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Ole Miss were among the schools that weren’t featured, yet the series still attracted a sizable audience.

According to Netflix data cited by Front Office Sports, Any Given Saturday generated roughly 3 million views between its August 5, 2025 debut and the end of December, representing about 15.8 million hours watched. The series picked up another 200,000 views during the first half of 2026.

The SEC Could Still Work With Netflix Again

While a second season isn’t happening this year, the SEC’s comments make it clear that the relationship with Netflix hasn’t necessarily ended. The streamer could have a role in a new season in the future, or even a different type of documentary project centered on the conference if the two sides could work together.

There would certainly be plenty for Netflix to follow if it eventually returns. FOS notes that six of the conference’s 16 schools enter the 2026 season with new head coaches, giving Netflix plenty of potential storylines to follow if cameras return.

Box To Box Films has previously indicated that it enjoyed working with the conference.

“We’ve loved our time with the SEC,” executive producer Paul Martin said in July 2025, according to FOS. “It’s such an amazing place to watch football. So, we’re very happy in our relationship.”

That suggests the decision to skip 2026 isn’t necessarily a sign that the series was unsuccessful or that Netflix and the SEC have moved on from each other.

South Carolina Wants Another Chance

South Carolina was one of the schools prominently featured in the first season, and the university also appears open to working with Netflix again.

“We thought our appearance on Netflix last year was beneficial for us,” South Carolina told Front Office Sports.

The school acknowledged that participating in the series required a significant commitment from its staff.

“It did take a lot of time, effort, and coordination amongst our staff,” South Carolina said. “We are open to working with them again in the future, should the opportunity arise.”

Schools that participated gave the production access to coaches, players, team facilities and locker rooms, so making another season would require a major commitment from the programs involved.

That helps explain why another season may require more than simply Netflix deciding that it wants to bring the show back. Colleges have to be willing to give a production crew extensive access during an already hectic football season.

Netflix Has Some Big Live Sports Events Coming

Even without a second season of SEC Football: Any Given Saturday in 2026, Netflix is continuing to lean heavily into live sports.

One of its next major events is MLB’s return to the Field of Dreams, where the Philadelphia Phillies will face the Minnesota Twins on August 13 at 7:30 p.m. ET. The game will stream exclusively on Netflix and marks the streamer’s third MLB broadcast this season, following Opening Night and the Home Run Derby. Kevin Costner, the star of the original Field of Dreams film, will also be part of the broadcast in an as-yet-undisclosed role.

Football quickly follows baseball, with Netflix expanding its NFL coverage in a big way for 2026. The slate includes a Week 1 matchup between the Rams and 49ers in Melbourne, Australia on September 10—the first regular-season NFL game ever played in the country. The platform will also stream the league’s first Thanksgiving Eve game, a Christmas Day doubleheader, a Week 18 matchup, and NFL Honors during Super Bowl week, as part of its long-term deal with the league through 2030.

Taken together, these additions show Netflix is far from slowing down its live sports push. While SEC football won’t return this fall, the streamer is filling its schedule with high-profile baseball and NFL events that span international games, holiday matchups, and marquee moments throughout the season.
