Amazon Is Making Back-to-School Shopping More Affordable With a New Prime Offer

College isn’t getting any cheaper, but Amazon has rolled out a new perk that could help students stretch their budgets a little further this fall.

Now through September 15, eligible Prime for Young Adults members can earn 5% cash back on qualifying home, kitchen, and office purchases. That means the same cart of dorm and apartment basics people were already buying for fall now comes with a little extra savings on top of Amazon’s regular prices. The offer also stacks with the existing cash back categories in the program, including beauty, apparel, personal care, PCs, and electronics.

Whether you’re moving into a dorm, furnishing your first apartment, or replacing school supplies, the new promotion rewards many of the items students are already buying this time of year.

How the offer works

Prime for Young Adults members automatically earn 5% cash back on eligible purchases. Amazon says the cash back balance can be checked on the Prime webpage after an order arrives, and once a member has at least $5 in rewards, it can be redeemed at checkout on most purchases. The cash back cannot be applied retroactively, expires 180 days after it is earned, and is capped at $100 for one purchase and $500 in a year.

Prime for Young Adults has a built-in discount for the membership itself. The membership is only $7.49 per month or $69 per year, which is half the price of standard Prime. Eligibility is open to young adults ages 18 to 24, along with higher-education students who can verify enrollment. Students can verify with a school email address or other documentation if they do not have a .edu address.

Along with fast shipping, members also get access to:

  • Prime Video
  • Amazon Music Prime
  • Prime Gaming
  • Prime Reading
  • Exclusive shopping discounts
  • Cash back rewards on eligible purchases

What qualifies?

Amazon says the promotion includes many of the essentials students buy before the semester starts, including:

  • Bedding and sheets
  • Storage bins and organizers
  • Desk accessories
  • Coffee makers
  • Air fryers
  • Printers
  • Notebooks and office supplies
  • Air purifiers
  • Other qualifying home, kitchen, and office products

These may be small purchases, but the basics can easily turn into a $150 to $300 cart. Under this promo, that kind of order could quietly send a chunk of money back into your account instead of disappearing into the usual back-to-school spending rush.

Since the rewards are earned automatically, there’s no coupon to clip or rebate form to submit. The promotion runs through September 15, and rewards are automatically added to your Prime for Young Adults account after eligible purchases are delivered.

Students Can Save Big Before Move-In Day

For cord cutters, Prime isn’t just about free shipping anymore. Prime Video continues to grow its lineup of exclusive TV shows, movies, live sports, and NFL games, making the subscription increasingly valuable even if you’re primarily signing up for the streaming benefits.

If you’re already planning to subscribe for Prime Video or need Prime for school, this back-to-school promotion gives you another opportunity to get more value out of your membership while checking off your dorm shopping list.

With move-in season underway, it’s one of the better student-focused offers Amazon has introduced this year. If you are 18 to 24 or enrolled in higher education, check if you’re eligible for the Prime for Young Adults new 5% cash back offer before it ends on September 15. Plus, you get access to streaming services, unlimited shipping, exclusive discounts, and more perks. And if you decide Prime isn’t for you, there’s no penalty, since you can cancel anytime, and there’s no long-term contract.

If you’re not a student or young adult, you can still unlock the benefits of Prime for 30 days free.

Share this with grads, students, or young adults so they can see why millions love Prime and start saving below.
