Meet the new Spider-Man — only kinda the same as the old Spider-Man. The first trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day spun its web across the internet on Mar. 18, revealing how Tom Holland‘s Peter Parker, and his wall crawling alter ego, is coping in a world where nobody remembers his name.
To say he’s not coping would be more accurate. When he’s not checking up all the fun his pals Ned (Jacob Batalon) and MJ (Zendaya) are having without him, Peter is patrolling the streets as Spider-Man, tangling with the snarling foes like the Punisher (Jon Bernthal) or consulting with familiar faces like Dr. Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo) about some personal changes he’s experiencing.
It turns out that Peter is going through some growing pains that impact all spiders… and his powers are unpredictable as a result. That’s a bad time for an old foe to come back into his life: Michael Mando returns as the Scorpion for the first time since Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017. “Stay out of my way,” the stinging villain warns Spidey.
The good news is that this period of trial leads to a “kind of rebirth” for both spiders and Spider-Men. What will Peter be like on the other side of this evolution? Stay tuned, Marvel zombies.

Brand New what?
Breaking with the naming convention of including the word “Home” in the title, the fourth MCU Spider-Man movie takes its name from a divisive 2008 comic book storyline, which saw Peter’s marriage to Mary Jane Watson erased from the timeline — among other retcons.
But since the events of No Way Home already futzed with the memory of this universe’s MJ, there’s some of that title’s DNA baked into the film’s status quo from the jump.
Who is in it?
Brand New Day will see the return of Holland, Zendaya and Batalon in the fourth standalone movie and seventh MCU film overall. Joining the cast is the current on-screen Punisher, Jon Bernthal, his costar from The Bear Liza Colón-Zayas, and Sadie Sink in a mystery role that has already fueled many hair-color-related fan theories.
Seemingly wanting to add even more Emmy nominations to the cast accolades, the trailer confirms that Severance‘s Tramell Tillman is also joining the ensemble.

Who’s directing?
After successfully helming Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Destin Daniel Cretton was all set to take on the next Avengers film: The Kang Dynasty. And if you’ve been paying any attention at all to Marvel news or celebrity legal headlines, you know what happened to that.
So with the Anthony and Joe Russo returning to tackle that film’s new incarnation, Avengers: Doomsday, Cretton has moved over to Brand New Day, and, according to Holland, the director is bringing with him a more tactile approach to filmmaking after COVID kept No Way Home largely confined to soundstages.
“Now, we’re really gonna lean into that old-school filmmaking and shoot in real locations, which is why we’re starting in Glasgow and we’re gonna use the streets of Glasgow to build this massive set-piece that we’re putting together,” Holland told Flip Your Wig. “So it’s gonna feel like making [Spider-Man: Homecoming] again. It’s been such a long time since I’ve done it, it’s gonna feel like a breath of fresh air, and I think the fans are going to be over the moon with what we’re putting together.”

What’s it about?
While there has been a full trailer released, the exact storyline is largely unknown. The first preview focused on the people Peter had to leave behind at the end of No Way Home and the unusual changes that his spider-infused body are going through, but that’s about it (leading some distrusting fans to suspect that a lot is being withheld by the filmmakers).
A full scene shown at CinemaCon in Las Vegas shed some more light on what Peter’s friends Ned and MJ have been up to in his Doctor Strange-manufactured absence. Apparently, Ned has become somewhat of a Spider-Man fanboy, even creating an app to track the wall-crawlers movements.
Looks like Peter’s secret identity might not stay a secret for very long.
What footage has been released so far?
The day before the first trailer officially drops, Sony shared previews piecemeal through fan social accounts.
To mark the anniversary of Spider-Man’s first appearance in Amazing Fantasy No. 15, Sony dropped a teaser-y clip featuring some fleeting, close-up looks at what was presumably Spidey’s brand new suit for Brand New Day.
The most notable detail is the raised black webbing on the red section of the costume, which is very reminiscent of the suit worn by Tobey Maguire in Sam Raimi’s trilogy.
Holland then shared this more complete look at the suit, which closely resembles the homemade ensemble Spidey wears at the end of No Way Home.
And as location shooting in Glasgow started, Sony put out an official look at filming on a set piece, which saw Holland as Spidey, riding atop a moving military vehicle. Also, some fans were allowed on set, and the actor took time for some photo ops.
When does it come out?
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is currently slated to hit theaters on July 31, 2026.

This story was originally published on Aug. 1; it has been updated with additional details, including the new trailer on March 18, details from CinemaCon on April 14, and another new trailer on June 17.
