Nobody likes Netflix departures. The streaming giant removes licensed movies and shows from its platform every month, but that still doesn’t make it any easier to accept. With so much to choose from and watch on Netflix, it might take you some time to actually get to certain titles on your watchlist.
But unfortunately, time isn’t on your side. This June, Netflix will be removing a bunch of movies from its platform. However, there’s a trio of films that I’m sure many fans will be disappointed to learn is on the chopping block. Do you remember the wildly popular Fifty Shades film series? Well, the entire trilogy is about to get the boot from the platform in June. That said, you might want to forget about everything else and move these films straight to the top of your watchlist!
The Fifty Shades trilogy is leaving Netflix in June 2026
If your favorite genre is romance, especially of the steamy, more dramatic variety, there’s just no way you haven’t heard of the Fifty Shades film series. The series is made up of the movies Fifty Shades of Grey (2015), Fifty Shades Darker (2017), and Fifty Shades Freed (2018). Starting with Fifty Shades of Grey, the trilogy became massive even if it didn’t receive the best critical reception. I mean, the movies made over $1.32 billion worldwide. Those are crazy numbers! It’s even the eighth highest-grossing R-rated franchise of all time. Talk about impressive!
Back in March 2026, Netflix added the entire Fifty Shades trilogy to its platform. The exact release date was March 1. Now, all three movies are about to depart the streaming platform exactly three months later. Yes, you read that right. Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, and Fifty Shades Freed will all be removed from Netflix on Monday, June 1, 2026. This is a very important date to mark down if you’ve been meaning to revisit the trilogy or watch it for the first time.
Given that it’s about to be removed just three months after its addition, it looks like Netflix had a three-month licensing window for the series of films. We can only hope that they might return in the future. That said, now is the perfect time to stream the movies before it’s too late. The last day you’ll be able to watch all three on Netflix is Sunday, May 31. The streaming giant has even put up a removal notice on each film’s title page on the platform.
The Fifty Shades of Grey movies are of the erotic romantic drama genre. They’re all based on the bestselling novels by author E. L. James, and center on the intense and sadomasochistic relationship between college graduate Anastasia Steele and young, wealthy businessman Christian Grey.
Dakota Johnson, who has gone on to star in so many big films following her breakout role in the Fifty Shades trilogy, takes on the lead role of Anastasia. On the other hand, talented Irish actor Jamie Dornan plays Christian Grey. The trilogy’s cast also includes Eloise Mumford, Victor Rasuk, Luke Grimes, Marcia Gay Harden, Rita Ora, Max Martini, Jennifer Ehle, and many others.
Below, we shared the official trailers for each Fifty Shades movie!
Now that you know when the Fifty Shades trilogy will be departing Netflix, all there’s left to do is decide whether you’re going to squeeze in a rewatch or finally check it off your watchlist!
