The future is bright for the royal family now that Princess Catherine is stepping back into the spotlight!
Kate Middleton has been lying pretty low ever since her cancer battle. Since going into remission early last year, she’s started to make more appearances here and there, leading up to her massive first solo trip overseas in nearly four years!
Her travel to Italy last week was a huge success as she was met with so many adoring fans everywhere she went, including visits to schools following the Reggio Emilia Approach, a child-centered educational philosophy in line with her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood work. Queen Elizabeth II’s former press secretary, Ailsa Anderson, told People on Wednesday:
“She knows the eyes of the world are on her. It is a clear signal she is back in business.”

And even as King Charles III was giving a speech to Parliament on the same day, Kate overtook the headlines. Author Russell Myers detailed the importance of this:
“There’s no denying that everyone concerned has been missing the princess’s star quality. She is a huge draw wherever she goes. Catherine is undoubtedly a central force in the monarchy’s popularity and ability to achieve its goals and move forward. There is no better time for her to return.”
Anderson added:
“She is our future Queen. As Queen Elizabeth used to say, you have to be seen to be believed. She is glamorous, she is beautiful. She is warm and approachable. On the back of the King’s successful visit to the States, William and Kate are upping their game.”
It was easy to tell just how beloved she is!
As she left one school visit, teachers were seen wiping away tears as many compared the Princess of Wales to the late Princess Diana. Local reporter Paulo Rosato gushed:
“She is like Diana was. Here in Italy, we need a good story — a good representation of family.”
Christian Guy, executive director of the Centre for Early Childhood, said Kate “was in her element in nature, seeing the power of the outdoors” for the whole visit:
“It is something that will stay with her for a very long time — she gets such joy from spending time with children.”
Kate also spent time cracking jokes while making pasta during another stop. It seemed like a very fun and successful trip! And it really highlighted how she intends to lead once queen — with an undeniable warmth and focused on long-term passions projects close to her heart, while always being hands-on with the public.
Her power and influence is also HUGE considering the royal family is dealing with more drama than ever before. Not only is Andrew Mountbatten Windsor‘s scandal with Jeffrey Epstein back in the spotlight, but the rift with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle “will always be a throbbing wound in the background,” Anderson said.
With the monarchy growing more slimmed-down by the minute and Will and Kate’s kids too young to step into their public roles, there’s a lot of pressure on the future King and Queen, author Catherine Mayer pointed out:
“Princess Anne and the other senior working royals are all stretched thin — and none of them are young. William and Catherine carry the whole thing.”
Charles and Kate’s strategic back-to-back overseas trips were “a one-two punch” by the palace, Mayer added:
“At the point the King went to America, the main theme was the fragility of the monarchy — and the fragility of the two of them. If you have the sense of them both fully back — doing it well — that shifts the perception.”
The sheer fact Kate went out on a solo trip says a lot about her well-being, too, Russell reflected:
“The overriding concern from all quarters has been about her health and managing her eventual return to full-time duties. She was given every assurance to take as much time as she needed, and this trip signifies that she is feeling better than she has in the last couple of years.”
It’s so good to see her looking happy and healthy after all she’s been through!!
One of Kate’s royal aides even chimed in, doubling down on the significance of this travel:
“It’s an important step in the princess’s recovery journey. She takes great joy from this work. It is only right that her first international trip since her illness is one that is focused on an issue that she is committed to championing for decades to come.”
A family friend had high praise to share about the mother of three, telling the outlet:
“She is an impeccable force for good, a fantastic standard-bearer — not just for the royal family but for the country.”
And don’t think for a second that this kind of fame isn’t incredibly valuable for the famous family. The 44-year-old might single-handedly be saving the monarchy from self-destructing, Mayer suspected:
“For the moment, after that period of unprecedented turbulence, they are doing a very good job of making it look like the ship is steady. That is why Kate is so important.”
She added:
“Charles is the incumbent, but she and William are the future. There is no institution without them.”
That is a LOT of pressure on one person! But Kate seems up for the task!
