While “The Devil Wears Prada 2” is chock full of cameos from fashion and media celebrities, a few roles were left on the cutting floor, including Conrad Ricamora‘s part as Andy’s (Anne Hathaway) roommate.
But Ricamora — best known for “How to Get Away With Murder,” “Fire Island,” and his Tony-nominated turn in “Oh, Mary!”— harbors no hard feelings about the creative change. On Wednesday, the actor shared a behind-the-scenes look at his experience filming the sequel, which he described as “one of the best working experiences” of his life.
“My dear ‘Rica-Morons,’ just like the rest of you, I can’t wait to see ‘The Devil Wears Prada 2,’” Ricamora captioned his post. “Getting to work with the icon Anne Hathaway, the genius Aline Brosh McKenna all the while being directed by the steady hand of David Frankel will forever be on the highlight reel of my life.”
Ricamora is in good company: Variety previously reported that cameos by Vogue boss Anna Wintour and Sydney Sweeney also got the axe. Sources said his character didn’t survive test screenings as audiences kept questioning why Andy needed a roommate at all. While a storyline about Andy’s crappy apartment still stands, the final film instead leans into her spending time at her old friend Lily’s (Tracie Thoms) place, a dynamic that hearkens back to the 2006 original.
However, Ricamora shared his version of why his character didn’t make sense in the grand scheme of things: “Something about me being too sexy and hott and my muscles being too big…story of my life,” he joked.
The actor then reminded his followers to buy their tickets for “The Devil Wears Prada 2,” in theaters on May 1, then check out his new play, a production of the Olivier and Tony-winning play “God of Carnage” in New Orleans. Performances begin on April 30 and run until May 17 in New Orleans.
