Even stars end up on the cutting-room floor.
Sydney Sweeney‘s cameo in the upcoming sequel to The Devil Wears Prada was cut from the final version. The actress, who is currently starring in the third season of HBO’s Euphoria, would have played herself in The Devil Wears Prada 2 — one of many cameos in the highly anticipated film, which premieres May 1. But the scene was nixed in “a creative decision,” as reported by Entertainment Weekly.
Here’s what to know.
The backstory
Rumors of Sweeney’s appearance in the film were first sparked when she was photographed in 2025 heading to the set of the film, which reunites Meryl Streep as legendary Runway editor Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, and Stanley Tucci as Nigel Kipling.
What happened
In the sequel, Andy returns to work to Runway alongside Miranda and Nigel as a features editor — and they must court Emily, who’s now working at Dior, a valuable advertiser. Sweeney’s three-minute scene, according to EW, further explored Emily’s introduction, and involved her dressing a celebrity client. The scene was said to “not work structurally” and was therefore removed, per EW.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is directed by David Frankel and written by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also teamed up on the original. Along with Streep, Hathaway, Blunt, and Tucci, the cast of the film includes Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux, B.J. Novak, Rachel Bloom, Patrick Brammall, Helen J Chen, Pauline Chalamet and Kenneth Branagh. Adrien Grenier, however, will not be returning for the sequel, as he pointed out in a recent Starbucks commercial — and as for other cameos, keep an eye and an ear out for Lady Gaga, who performs a new original song.
