Josh Hutcherson SLAMS Backlash He Got Online For Saying He’s Not A Taylor Swift Fan!

Josh Hutcherson is learning the hard way that even the most harmless opinions can turn into a full-blown internet firestorm… especially when they involve Taylor Swift and her fiercely loyal fanbase!

The Hunger Games star is speaking out after catching major heat online for casually admitting he’s not exactly a card-carrying Swiftie during a 2025 chat with fellow star Jordan Firstman. And no, this wasn’t some shady diss or dramatic takedown. It was just… honesty. But as we all know, honesty on the internet often comes with a side of chaos.

Opening up about the situation in a talk with GQ that was published on Monday, Josh didn’t hold back when recalling how quickly things spiraled out of control after a playful moment during a shoot last year with Jordan turned into headline fodder.

He explained:

“I got some heat because I did a photo shoot with Jordan, and Jordan asked me something about being a [Taylor Swift fan], and I was like, ‘Oh no, I’m definitely not a Swiftie.’ All of a sudden, it garnered this, ‘F**k him! He’s a monster! Destroy him! He’s short! He hates her because he’s short!’”

Yikes! That escalated quickly!

For the record, Josh wants it crystal clear: this is not a case of celebrity shade. He’s not anti-Taylor, he’s just… not into her music. And honestly, isn’t that allowed anymore?

He clarified:

“It’s just like, whoa! I think she’s great. Her music is not my kind of music.”

Simple, right? Apparently not for the internet, which wasted no time dragging him for everything from his taste in music to, bizarrely, his height. Huh?!

In the end, the backlash reaffirmed why Josh prefers to keep his distance from the digital world altogether. He admitted:

“That is why I don’t want to be online.”

TBH, can you blame him?

Like we referenced up top, this whole saga actually started more than a year ago during a lighthearted “camera roll roulette” game, where Josh stumbled upon a photo of himself and his mom at Taylor’s Eras Tour. When asked if he was a fan, he gave an honest but respectful answer:

“Very much not. No shade, all respect, but definitely not.”

Still, that didn’t stop critics from calling him out, especially over the fact that he attended the wildly popular tour — VIP tickets and all. Because apparently, enjoying a concert without being a superfan is now controversial?

But for Josh, this isn’t just about one viral moment! It’s actually part of a bigger reason why he chooses to stay offline and out of the constant noise. In his eyes, too much visibility can actually hurt his craft as an actor.

He explained:

“I don’t need that energy. It’s counterintuitive to my job, because if people know you more, you can’t disappear into characters. They see you as, ‘Oh, that’s Josh.’ You know what I mean? So, if you’re a f**king meme, people know you for the meme.”

And honestly, he’s not wrong.

Still, at the end of the day, Josh clearly committed the ultimate internet crime: having a mild opinion. LOLz!
