Last week, magic was in full force at the Warner Bros. CinemaCon panel, where Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman took the stage to introduce their upcoming film, Practical Magic 2. Now, the studio has released the official trailer, offering fans a sneak peek at what’s in store for the sequel to the beloved 1998 fantasy.
In their lighthearted exchange at the April 14 presentation, Bullock turned to Kidman and asked, “Why do we come here, Nicole?” to which Kidman replied “We come to this place for magic.”
Kidman also offered a glimpse of what fans can expect from the sequel, promising that it will stay true to the spirit of the original, including “midnight margaritas, jumping off the roof and also have our past catching up with us.”
Here’s everything we know so far about the spellbound sequel.

THE PLOT
Bullock revealed that her character, Sally, now has two grown children while Kidman’s Gilly remains child-free but lives with her black cat.
“It picks up from where we have the iconic house… but we also have our past catching up with us,” Kidman teased.
The teaser trailer reintroduced the Owens family as they welcome a new man, played by Lee Pace, into their lives. However, there may be trouble in store for him if the trailer is any indication, as Gilly warns, “Everyone we love dies,” suggesting he may face an unhappy fate.
Bullock also confirmed that Sally is single, noting, “if you know the original film, you can probably guess why,” a clear nod to the story’s enduring cursed-love theme.
Earlier, Bullock posted a video on Instagram of herself mixing margaritas — a playful reference to the original film’s beloved “midnight margaritas” scene.
THE CAST
Besides Bullock and Kidman, the cast will feature Joey King as Sally’s daughter, Maisie Williams, Xolo Maridueña, and Sally McLeod, as well as Dianne Wiest and Stockard Channing, who will reprise their roles as the aunts who raised the Owens sisters.

THE CREW
While the original Practical Magic was adapted from Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel, the sequel tells a new story. Susanne Bier (Bird Box) steps in as director, taking over from Griffin Dunne, who helmed the original film.
The screenplay is written by returning co-writer Akiva Goldsman (A Beautiful Mind, The Da Vinci Code) alongside Georgia Pritchett (Veep, Succession).
THE LOCATION
Kidman and Bullock said the duo will return to the film’s original house. “We rebuilt the original house on the cliff,” said Bullock. “We filled that house with many old and new characters that you’ll love and brought Alice Hoffman’s Book of Magic to life.”
RELEASE DATE
Practical Magic 2 opens in theaters on Sept. 18, 2026.
This story was first published on April 15 and updated on April 20.
