Mile End Kick was written and directed by Chandler Levack, and was inspired by Levack’s own experience as a young music journalist. The film stars Euphoria‘s Barbie Ferreira as Grace Pine, a young woman who moves to Montreal in 2011, with the intention of writing a book about Alanis Morrissette’s hit album, Jagged Little Pill. Instead, Grace gets distracted by an inspiring musician named Archie (played by Devon Bostick), and ends up following his indie rock band around on tour, working as the band’s publicist.
Also starring Stanley Simons, Juliette Gariépy, and Jay Baruchel, Mile End Kicks first premiered at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival, where it was met with positive reviews from critics. This one sounds like a perfect throwback for lovers of early aughts indie art.
