Less than a minute into Rooster‘s pilot episode, John C. McGinley makes his grand entrance — shirtless, sweaty, and beaming with confidence. It’s his first of many revealing scenes, and though McGinley’s character Walter Mann proudly describes himself as “jacked,” when the 66-year-old actor read the script and realized he’d “be practically naked for the run of the show,” he took action. “I hired a guy to help me shed about 44 pounds, purely out of vanity. Not out of serving the character, just as a bullheaded jackass,” McGinley told DECIDER over Zoom. “I wanted to not look like I…

Pictures courtesy of Netflix and Gary H. Lee KPop Demon Hunters is a wide-ranging piece of visual spectacle. For cinematographer Gary H. Lee, the project presented an array of environments and tones to visualize, including rollicking demon-slaying action, passionate K-Drama, and rousing stadium concerts. In short, it’s a fully-realized epic vision. Lee and his collaborators received a nomination for Outstanding CG Cinematography at the Visual Effects Society Awards. KPop Demon Hunters went on, of course, to win Best Animated Picture at the Academy Awards. Shortly after the win, Lee spoke with What’s On Netflix about his work on the film…

Courtesy of HBO David Milch’s “Deadwood” features one of the most shocking TV deaths of all time. It occurs in Season 2, when young William Bullock (Josh Eriksson) gets run over by an escaped horse and dies soon after from his injuries. Killing off a child character might seem like a bold creative decision, but William’s death stemmed from some behind-the-scenes drama involving someone connected to Eriksson. “There’s this kid, and there’s some brouhaha going on that didn’t sit well with Milch,” Timothy Olyphant recalled in an interview with “The Rich Eisen Show.” “There was a knock on my trailer…

There are few on-screen performances throughout the Western genre that can truly rival what Val Kilmer was able to achieve as Doc Holliday in Tombstone. The popular action Western rode high off the coattails of Academy Award-winning romps like Dances with Wolves and Unforgiven, garnering a massive cult following that has grown into a worldwide sensation. Just about everyone (even those who don’t love Westerns) loves Tombstone, and Kilmer’s remarkable performance is one of the many reasons why. Interestingly enough, the actor ultimately decided to take the part upon reflecting on the advice that Hollywood legend Marlon Brando gave him…

“Thrash,” like just about every shark thriller, has a grade-Z son-of-“Jaws” quality. (The one exception: the ingenious “Open Water.”) Everything in the movie, from the chomping shark attacks that churn up the waves with Hawaiian Punch foam to the way a humongous great white meets her fate at the end, takes an obvious page from Steven Spielberg’s gambits and techniques. But shark movies, because of that derivative quality (and because the directors are not Spielberg), often tend to be dreary and claustrophobic affairs. “Thrash,” on the other hand, has a lively competence about it, a touch of fluid originality in…

Is there such a thing as the perfect movie quote? The short answer is yes, but the real question isn’t if a perfect movie quote exists, but, rather, what constitutes the perfect movie quote. It’s an engaging debate, which is why things like AFI’s “100 Years… 100 Movie Quotes” or Collider’s “20 Most Badass Movie Quotes, Ranked” are so fascinating. It’s lists like these and countless others like them that provide direction on that very point. For one, the quote becomes part of the vernacular, uttered by people who likely haven’t even seen the movie the quote is from. The…

Ralph Fiennes thinks the “ship has sailed” for him to reprise the role of Voldemort, but he’d be more than happy to pass the wand to another acclaimed British actor: Tilda Swinton. During an appearance on “The Claudia Winkleman Show” on Friday night, Fiennes was questioned about HBO’s upcoming “Harry Potter” series and the rumors surrounding who will take on the role of the Dark Lord. “I remember being asked the question once we’d shot the total film series, would I reprise the part, and this was some years ago. I said, ‘Yes, I’d love to,’” Fiennes revealed. “But then…

EXCLUSIVE: We are hearing that Ride Along 3 is in early development at Universal with stars Ice Cube and Kevin Hart, director Tim Story, and producer Will Packer all in early discussions to return. The news comes at a time when Uni has closed a deal with scribe Daniel Gold (Tough Guys) to pen the screenplay. Gold’s pitch, which is under wraps, got the foursome excited and on the same page. No…
