Anya Taylor-Joy is known for giving full-bodied performances in the likes of “The Witch,” “The Queen’s Gambit,” “Furiosa” and more, but she’s never gone full Method on a set before nor does she have plans to in the future. The way Taylor-Joy sees it, women do not have the opportunity like men do when it comes to being a Method actor. “If you’ll notice, women don’t method act because we have things to take care of, so we can’t completely lose our minds,” Taylor-Joy recently said in a viral interview with Complex News. “I see acting as a controlled psychosis…
ABC If you’re an actor looking to find yourself in the most bizarre emergency possible, securing a guest spot on “9-1-1” is your best bet. The procedural from Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk, and Tim Minear features Los Angeles firefighters (and one very determined cop) responding to calls that are occasionally mundane, but mostly over-the-top. The show’s cast includes acting veterans like Angela Bassett, Peter Krause, and Jennifer Love Hewitt alongside several newer faces. Procedurals like “9-1-1” offer ample room for guest stars, as episodes routinely feature LA residents in crisis alongside family…
Open Doors, the Locarno Film Festival‘s co-production platform and talent development program for filmmakers from equity-seeking communities and regions where artistic expression is at risk, is ready for its 2026 edition. It is its second that is putting a spotlight on African cinema. The Open Doors Producers program supports producers in their efforts to build sustainable careers and cross-border networks, bringing to the Swiss city six participants. They are Tapiwa Chipfupa of Ambidextrous Pictures in Zimbabwe, an EAVE alumn who recently launched the international training and mentorship program Audiovisual Entrepreneurs Laboratory (AVEL); Adja Mariam Mahre Soro from the Ivory Coast, or Côte d’Ivoire,…

With the NFL preseason starting this week, the NFL has still not finalized new broadcast deals for the 2026-27 season, as talks with CBS are reportedly “on hold” while the Paramount acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery is pending. According to a report from Anthony Crupi for Sportico, an original deal between the NFL and Paramount was upended when Skydance acquired Paramount in 2025, which triggered a change-of-control clause and gave the league freedom to make deals with other partners. The NFL now has the upper hand in negotiations with CBS as it can choose to walk away from the deal…
Can the latest Cape Fear do what its predecessors couldn’t and scare up a major award win? Apple TV’s Southern gothic thrill ride — a pulpy limited-series reimagining of the 1991 Martin Scorsese remake of the 1962 film based on the 1957 novel The Executioners (got all that?) — just wrapped its 10-episode run. Starring Javier Bardem, Amy Adams, and Patrick Wilson, and produced in part by Scorsese and Steven Spielberg, the new Cape Fear had an awards-worthy pedigree. While it’s fondly remembered today, not all critics loved Scorsese’s Cape Fear at the time of its release, and the film…
Ariana Grande is saying thank u, next to her latest chapter. After the “Thank U, Next” hitmaker’s rep shared that she’ll be taking time away from the public eye following the final stop in her Eternal Sunshine Tour Sept. 1, Grande spoke out about the time off. “The announcement that was made yesterday was not a reactive or impulsive thing,” Grande said at her Chicago concert Aug. 3. “It is something that I had decided to plan, that I had quietly made a long time ago.” Following online scrutiny, Grande denied that “negativity was ruining things” for her, and explained she…
Spider-Man: Brand New Day broke the record for the biggest-ever opening at the U.S. box office. The film’s $360M debut bested that of Avengers: Endgame. It’s quite an accomplishment for a franchise that’s been around for a quarter century through nine films and three separate male leads. For a sense of that lineage, we’ve compiled a chronological list of all Sony’s live-action films that star Spider-Man. Scroll through the entries below for details on each live-action installment, who played Spider-Man, how much it made at the box office and where to stream it. ‘Spider-Man,’ 2002 Image Credit: Columbia Pictures/courtesy Everett…
The reason why Acorn TV‘s “cozy mysteries” work so well is that the main characters — you know, the ones solving the murders — are more than just cops spewing clever lines. We get enough glimpses into their lives and psyches to make a real connection to that particular show’s found family. One of the best shows to do that, The Chelsea Detective, is back for Season 4. Opening Shot: Scenes of London from the Thames. On the river, we see a mostly-glass event space sitting on a pier in London’s swanky Chelsea neighborhood. The Gist: Fashion magnate Claire Curtis…
There is a brand new title topping the list for the all-time biggest domestic opening weekend at the box office, as Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s debut has been adjusted in final numbers and will now surpass Avengers: Endgame, which previously led the way. Sony Pictures‘ new movie earned $360 million from 4,487 North American screens in Monday actuals, which is up from the $355 million that the studio had projected on Sunday. This leaps past Avengers: Endgame’s previous record of $357.1 million in its domestic opening from April 2019, a start that for years had seemed to be an impossible…
