XO, Kitty season 4 would be the right time to end the teen series

Since its debut in 2023, XO, Kitty has carved out its own identity as a charming spinoff of Jenny Han’s beloved To All the Boys franchise. While the show inherited the warmth, humor, and romance of the films, it quickly grew into a standalone series focused on the youngest Covey sister, Kitty Song-Covey. Over the course of three seasons, viewers have watched Kitty explore love, friendship, and the challenges of coming of age, all while adjusting to life at a prestigious Korean boarding school.

But as fans eagerly speculate about the possibility of a fourth season, it’s worth considering one thing. If Netflix does decide to renew the series, could season 4 be the ideal time to bring it to a close? There are plenty of reasons to believe it might. Ending the show at the right moment could provide narrative closure, honor Kitty’s journey, and preserve the series’ charm without overextending its story.

The evolution of Kitty’s story

From the very first season, XO, Kitty established itself as a series about growth and self-discovery. Season 1 followed Kitty as she left her familiar life in the U.S. to attend the Korean Independent School of Seoul (KISS). Along the way, she confronted cultural differences, formed new friendships, and navigated her first real taste of romantic confusion. The show balances lighthearted teen comedy with heartfelt moments, allowing viewers to see Kitty evolve into a more independent, self-aware young woman.

Season 2 expanded the cast and intensified the drama. Kitty’s love life became more complicated, rivalries with classmates heated up, and new social pressures tested her resilience. By the end of season 2, Kitty’s romantic journey remained deliberately unresolved.

The latest installment, XO, Kitty season 3, refocused on Kitty’s growth as she entered her senior year. Romantic tension with Min Ho deepened, friendships were tested and strengthened, and her bond with her family, especially her older sister Lara Jean, took on added weight. Season 3 underscored Kitty’s transition from adolescence to early adulthood, showcasing her emotional maturity and readiness for the next stage of her life.

Why XO, Kitty season 4 could be the right conclusion

Now if a fourth season ends up happening, it would be the perfect opportunity to bring Kitty’s story full circle. From a narrative standpoint, the series is pretty much almost done exploring Kitty’s transition from girlhood to young adulthood. The third season ends with Kitty getting accepted into NYU. She finishes the first semester of her senior year and has just one more semester left of high school before heading off to college. In other words, her central character arc has reached a natural climax.

Kitty has learned to stand up for herself, make independent decisions, and navigate tricky situations at school and in her personal life. She’s figured out more about who she is as a person, such as her values, passions, and identity. Additionally, she’s explored feelings for different people. She now knows who she really wants to be with. That’s Min Ho. Stretching the story beyond this point risks diluting her impact and turning a focused coming-of-age tale into a prolonged teen drama.

However, ending the series in season 4 would allow writers to provide meaningful closure for fans. Viewers have invested in Kitty’s journey for three seasons, and a final fourth season could tie up key relationships, resolve lingering questions, and give the show a satisfying conclusion. Kitty’s romance with Min Ho, her friendships, and her family dynamics could all reach resolutions that feel earned, rather than leaving audiences with open-ended storylines that might frustrate them.

Additionally, ending on a high note preserves the legacy of XO, Kitty. The series has already achieved what many spinoffs fail to do. That’s carve out its own niche, provide meaningful representation, and maintain a consistent tone of humor and heart. A thoughtful conclusion ensures that these achievements are celebrated while avoiding the potential pitfalls of extending the story too long.

While Netflix has not yet confirmed an XO, Kitty season 4, it’s intriguing to imagine how the story could conclude. If the fourth season does happen, it could serve as the perfect endpoint for Kitty’s journey. It could offer closure, honor the characters, and ultimately cement the series as a beloved coming-of-age story.

Sometimes, the right time to say goodbye is simply when the story has reached its full potential. For Kitty Song-Covey, if XO, Kitty season 4 happens, that moment may be just around the corner.

All eight episodes of XO, Kitty season 3 are now streaming on Netflix.
