Netflix shares Virgin River season 8 update fans have been waiting on

The Virgin River season 8 production rumors had been running wild for the last few weeks. Now, Netflix has confirmed the production update fans have been waiting for.

Virgin River season 8 has officially started production in Vancouver, British Columbia. Alexandra Breckenridge also shared word of the production kickoff in an Instagram post with her co-star, the one and only Martin Henderson.

According to reports, the cast and crew started filming season 8 on April 22. If all goes according to plan, the season should wrap sometime in August 2026, which means the series will be filming throughout the summer.

This is obviously a super exciting time for Virgin River fans. We just finished a terrific seventh season about a month ago on March 12. We know everyone binge-watched it opening weekend; we’ve seen the Netflix ratings for that stretch. Now, production is kicking off on the new season a month later. That’s basically as quick of a turnaround for Virgin River as fans could hope for.

When production starts up on a new season of Virgin River, fans all have the same question: When is the next season coming to Netflix? Well, that’s where things get a little bit tricky.

If production on season 8 wrapped in June or July, we could definitely expect to see the new season by the end of the year. With an August wrap, it’s a lot more challenging, and it’s pretty much out of the question that we’d see Virgin River season 8 sometime in December 2026.

It’s much, much more likely that Netflix will take their time with post-production and wait until the first quarter of 2027 to release the new season, about one year after the premiere of season 7. Unfortunately, that’s the reality of the TV industry right now.

The good news is that we probably won’t have to wait longer than that for Virgin River to return. We see a lot of shows with much longer waits between seasons, so if we have to wait a year and some change for the next season of Virgin River, that’s obviously a good thing.

Still, it’s going to be an agonizing wait after the ending of Virgin River season 7!

What happened at the end of Virgin River season 7?

At the very end of season 7, we were left with a few major cliffhangers.

We see Mel and Jack headed in an ambulance to a better hospital to care for their new baby, who has a heart issue. They’re facing a long road ahead and a long recovery process, but there’s hope that the baby will be okay. So, we should be seeing Mel and Jack as parents for the first time when season 8 rolls around.

Then, we also have the big Brady cliffhanger! My guy simply can’t catch a break in this show.

This time, Brady is hit by a car while riding his motorcycle, and we don’t know his fate. Will he live? Will he die? Will his life be the same?

There is no way they are going to kill off Brady after everything he’s been through in this series. He finally reconnected with Brie, as well. I’m confident he will live, but at what cost? That’s what we’ll find out in the next season of the series.

Stay tuned for more updates about Virgin River season 8! Hopefully, we’ll see some more behind-the-scenes action now that production has started.
