Netflix’s new webtoon adaptation, Outback, is currently filming in Australia. Starring Ryu Jun Yeol in the lead role, the actor is joined by Hong Kyung, Jung Ho Yeon, and Justin H. Min. Here’s everything we know so far about Outback on Netflix.
Outback is an upcoming South Korean Netflix Original thriller series directed by Jeon Doo Kwan (Scene: Strange Tales) and adapted from the webtoon G’day (그다이) by author Choi Yong Sung.
What is the plot of Outback?
The synopsis has been sourced from the webtoon description:
“Having lost all contact with his sister, Shiyoung, a worried Shion sets out to see what is wrong by arriving in Australia, where his sister was staying. While staying at the share house his sister was living, he starts to sense that the people there have something to do with his missing sister.”
Who are the cast members of Outback?
The first cast member reported for the series is Ryu Jun Yeol. On April 14, 2026, it was reported that Hong Kyung had joined the cast.
Ryu Jun Yeol has starred in two titles for Netflix: the thriller series The 8 Show and the mystery thriller film Revelations. Outside of Netflix, Ryu Jun Yeol is best known for his career in Korean cinema and has led films such as Canola, The King, A Taxi Driver, and Little Forest. As for dramas, he played a lead role in the beloved Reply 1988. The actor will also star in Netflix’s upcoming crime-thriller Moustrap. Ryu Jun Yeol will play the lead role of Si-on.

Hong Kyung has starred in a handful of Netflix projects, including dramas Weak Hero Class and DP, and the films Good News and Lost in Starlight. Outside of Netflix, he has starred in K-dramas such as Concrete Market, Revenant, Lovers of the Red Sky, School 2017, and Jugglers.

On July 21, 2026, it was reported that actress Jung Ho Yeon had received an offer to join the cast of Outback. The actress previously starred in Netflix’s Squid Game as Kang Sae Byeok/No. 067 and had a guest role in Chicken Nugget. Her only other acting role to date was in the 2026 film Hope. While her acting roles have been limited, she has become one of the most influential models in South Korea.

On August 20, 2026, it was reported that American actor Justin H. Min has joined the cast of Outback as an Australian police officer, not just in the supporting cast, but as a key figure in the events that unfold. The actor’s limited appearances in Korean projects were the film Slide Strum Mute, the reality series The Devil’s Plan, and the voice of Jay in the English dub of Lost in Starlight. He is well known for starring as Ben Hargreeves in Netflix’s The Umbrella Academy and as Edwin in Beef.

Filming has been underway in Australia since June 2026 and is expected to conclude by December 2026.
When is Outback coming to Netflix?
