Jacob Elordi Takes Flight in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars Trailer

Jacob Elordi is keeping booked and busy, with his latest project on display during Disney’s CinemaCon presentation on Thursday.

The thriller tells the story of Hig (played by Elordi), a young pilot who, together with a military survivalist, Bangley (Josh Brolin), has carved out an efficient but isolated homestead in a brutal post-apocalyptic world. But that changes when a mysterious radio transmission spurs Hig to venture into the unknown in search of the hope and humanity he still believes exists.

Ridley Scott is in the director’s chair, with a theatrical release date set for Aug. 28. Based on Peter Heller’s bestseller, the film also stars Margaret Qualley, Guy Pearce, Benedict Wong and Allison Janney. The film is written by Mark L. Smith and produced by Scott, Michael Pruss and Cliff Roberts.

The trailer arrived in Las Vegas — following a virtual appearance from Scott — at the same time it went public, and starts with Elordi and Qualley as a married couple excitedly bringing home a dog. Cut to a short time later and Elordi and the dog are solo; Brolin’s character asks him, “So what’d you do before the world ended?” Elordi’s Hig replies, ” I was kissing my wife, playing with my dog, wondering every day how I got so lucky.”

He then is shown setting out on his own via a classic plane, and in flashback scenes with his wife sits around a fire as she admits, “I don’t like the feeling of wondering if you’re gonna come back.” The footage ends with Elordi taking flight as he’s chased by men on horseback, who leap onto the wing of his plane.

Paul Mescal was originally set to lead the project, reteaming with Scott after Gladiator II, but Elordi came on board when Mescal had to drop out due to film Sam Mendes’ four-film Beatles project.
