Update April 10, 2026
Mario is still collecting coins — and plenty of them.
Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie easily held onto No. 1 this weekend with $69 million, dropping a significant but expected 48% from its massive debut and pushing its domestic total to $308 million in just 12 days. Worldwide, the animated sequel has already blasted to $629 million, officially becoming the highest-grossing film of 2026 so far.
Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary stayed strong in second place with $24.6 million, slipping just 21% as it crossed the $500 million mark worldwide. The sci-fi smash has now grossed $256.7 million domestically and continues to be one of the spring’s biggest breakout hits.
A24’s The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, landed in third with $8.7 million, falling 38% in its second weekend. The buzzy dark comedy has now reached $30.8 million domestically and $65 million worldwide, becoming another word-of-mouth win for the indie studio.
Universal’s You, Me & Tuscany opened a bit below expectations in fourth with $8 million, though the Halle Bailey and Regé-Jean Page rom-com earned an A- CinemaScore and drew an audience that was 80% female, suggesting it could still have decent legs.
Pixar’s Hoppers rounded out the top five with $4.1 million, lifting its global total to $354 million.

Universal’s The Super Mario Galaxy Movie is set to remain firmly in control of the box office, eyeing a $65 million–$75 million second weekend after last frame’s $190 million five-day debut — the biggest opening of 2026. Even with a typical drop in the 40–50% range, it will remain comfortably ahead of the competition as it races toward $300 million domestic.
Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary, led by Ryan Gosling, should hold steady in second place, adding around $20 million stateside as the sci-fi smash closes in on half a billion worldwide.
The weekend’s biggest new arrival is Universal’s You, Me & Tuscany, targeting an $8 million — $12 million debut. The romantic comedy stars Halle Bailey as a drifting twenty-something who impulsively travels to Italy and poses as a stranger’s fiancée — only for the lie to spiral when sparks fly with his cousin, played by Regé-Jean Page. With a sun-soaked backdrop and a classic mistaken-identity hook, it’s positioned as clear date-night counter-programming.
A24’s The Drama, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, is expected to dip in its second weekend but remain in the top five with around $7 million, while Pixar’s Hoppers continues its steady run as the season’s alternative family option.
IFC’s Faces of Death also enters the mix with a low single-digit debut, likely landing in the lower end of the top 10. Directed by Daniel Goldhaber, the reimagining of the 1978 cult title follows a content moderator who uncovers a disturbing online group reenacting violent deaths, blurring the line between what’s real and what’s staged. The ensemble cast includes Barbie Ferreira, Dacre Montgomery, Josie Totah, Jermaine Fowler, and Charli xcx.
Elsewhere, The Christophers, Hamlet, Exit 8, Bunnylovr, and ChaO all arrive in limited release, opening well outside the top tier as they begin their theatrical runs.
