Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You is the biggest Netflix show of the year so far, and now, we have some news to share about Coben’s next big Netflix show, The Woods.
Michelle Keegan, who stars in The Woods with Tom Bateman, shared a production update during an appearance on BBC’s The One Show. According to OK! Magazine, Keegan was asked when The Woods will be released.
“Well, we’re still filming. We wrap mid-October, so next month,” Keegan said in the interview.
That’s the first news we’ve heard of The Woods wrapping production. I thought, because filming started this spring, that production would be done by now, but we’ve seen reports of Keegan and Bateman filming all over North West England for the past few months.
The Woods might sound familiar to a lot of Coben’s fans because it’s a very popular book. It’s also already been adapted for a Polish Netflix original series. This version of The Woods will be set in the UK, obviously.
The series tells the story of a murder and disappearance of several kids at a summer camp decades ago. When a person connected to the murder and disappearance turns up dead two decades later, Paul Copeland, a relative of one of the victims, is pulled back into the case and tries to get to the bottom of the story.
The Woods could be ready for a New Year’s Day premiere on Netflix
While Keegan didn’t bite on the release date announcement, we have a pretty good idea when to expect The Woods to be released on Netflix. It’s definitely coming to Netflix in 2027, but will it be ready for Jan. 1? That’s the big question.
For basically the last four years, we’ve seen a new Netflix show based on Coben’s books released on New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day. This year, we had Run Away on Jan. 1, 2026, followed by I Will Find You on June 18.
Right now, I would guess The Woods will be released on Jan. 1, 2027. Netflix has not shared that information yet, but that’s just what the trend has been over the last few years.
Keegan’s update puts that release timeline under a little pressure. Depending on when exactly the cast and crew wrap on The Woods, it might not be possible to get the season done in that amount of time. Usually, there’s about three months, minimum, from the end of production to a release date because the full season needs to be edited, ADR has to happen, and it needs to get dubbed for release around the globe. That’s a tight turnaround if The Woods wraps in late October.
If we see the show wrap in early October, there’s definitely a chance that we’ll see the new series on Jan. 1. If it’s much later than that, I just really don’t see Netflix keeping the New Year’s Day drop tradition alive for Coben’s new show.
I don’t think we’ll be waiting long into 2027 for The Woods, though. It will likely premiere in the first quarter. I feel confident saying that right now, but I’m a little more skeptical than I was about a Jan. 1 release date if production is really going to take this long.
The good news is that Netflix has two big shows from Coben coming in 2027. The Woods will premiere early in the year, and I think, by summer, we will likely see the first season of Myron Bolitar. That will probably be the biggest of Coben’s shows at Netflix, so I’m expecting the streamer to give us quite a big rollout with it.
