Carly Rae Jepsen is opening up about parting ways with Scooter Braun.

If you recall, the now 40-year-old singer signed with the 45-year-old music executive’s label and management team after her song “Call Me Maybe” blew up online over a decade ago.

A few years ago, it was reported that several artists left Scooter‘s management, though it was noted that at that time, Carly hadn’t worked with him in years.

In a new interview, Carly Rae spoke out about parting ways with Scooter.

While Carly Rae has stayed at Interscope Records, she did make changes to her management team, notably leaving Scooter Braun.

“I’ve had some good experiences with people, and I’ve had hard ones too,” she told THR in a new profile. “It’s taken a second to figure out the right team for my management, and now I’m happier than I’ve ever been.”

With that, she doesn’t hold any ill will towards Scooter, but explains why stopped working together.

“I knew that I was on a different journey than he understood,” the singer shared. “I wanted to do something a little bit less mainstream, and I liked what he had offered, but I didn’t necessarily think it was what I wanted anymore. I felt like it was just going to be a little bit easier to shake hands, walk away and go let my freak flag fly, so to speak.”

“I took one of his employees with me,” she cheekily added.

Now, she says she feels more freedom to explore with her current team, and says Interscope has always been good to her.

“I wouldn’t say I had complete agency from the beginning, but not because they were trying to take it away,” Carly said. “But I didn’t know how to take it.”

Now, she is gearing up to release her seventh album with the label, Day and Night, which comes out next Friday, September 18th.

In the same interview above, the “I Really Like You” singer revealed she may have named her son after a character in Heated Rivalry!

If you missed it, Carly Rae is writing music for an upcoming Broadway musical.
