On the heels of another monster box-office weekend, The Odyssey isn’t slowing down — and neither are its Oscar odds.
Christopher Nolan‘s epic grossed another $87 million in its second weekend, a modest 30% drop from its $123.5 million debut and the best second-weekend hold of Nolan’s career, edging out The Dark Knight. The Homeric film has now crossed $639 million globally, and Imax reports most of its 70mm showtimes are sold out into September.
That enthusiasm for the movie is showing up in Gold Derby’s Oscar odds.
In Best Picture, The Odyssey sits in second place among combined users, trailing only Project Hail Mary as everyday moviegoers continue to update their predictions. Among experts, though, the film is out front — with every expert predicting a nomination.

Matt Damon‘s Odysseus is having a moment, too. He jumped 10% in the combined Best Actor odds, good for fourth place behind Tom Cruise (Digger), John Malkovich (Wild Horse Nine), and Ryan Gosling (Project Hail Mary). Experts are far more bullish: Damon is up 9% there and is the outright favorite.

Anne Hathaway has overtaken Penélope Cruz (La Bola Negra) as the Best Supporting Actress front-runner. Experts have her at 90% and in first place. The open question is whether Universal ultimately campaigns Hathaway’s Penelope in lead or supporting. The role has enough gravitas to warrant a Best Actress campaign, which would clear space for another Odyssey performance to break into the supporting race.
That’s where Samantha Morton comes in. The two-time Oscar nominee (Sweet and Lowdown, In America) continues to climb as Circe, now just outside the top five in sixth place.
