Sofia Laforteza is addressing speculation.
The 23-year-old KATSEYE member addressed Manon Bannerman‘s hiatus from the “Pinky Up” girl group in a new interview.
During the discussion with Vanity Fair, the members were asked about Manon‘s abrupt absence from the group, as well as engaging with social media posts about being the only Black woman in the group.
“We can definitely say that in our situation, in no way was it about race,” Sofia noted, going on to say: “That goes against everything that we stand for.”
The group added that they’ve been keeping up with Manon “here and there.”
“The safest space that we had was within the six of us. People just have no idea what goes on. They just don’t. It’s nothing but love between us,” member Lara Raj added.
Manon is not featured on their forthcoming EP Wild out in August, and there are no plans to join their upcoming world tour. (Click here for ticket and tour info.)
Since her hiatus announcement, the group has continued with the remaining five members – Daniela Avanzini, Lara Raj, Megan Skiendiel, Sophia Laforteza, and Yoonchae – including awards show appearances, performing at Coachella, and more.
