The Paramount+ original series, Dutton Ranch, is about to wrap its first season. Unsurprisingly, the Yellowstone spin-off has quickly become one of the top shows on the streaming platform.
The series follows Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and their adopted son, Carter (Finn Little) as they start life anew in South Texas. Along the way, they make new rivals, deal with a devastating foot-and-mouth disease outbreak, and more.
As fans prepare for the finale of the series, they also are questioning the show’s next steps. OG showrunner Chad Feehan announced his departure from the show weeks before it premiered. With the series’ second season now clearly on the horizon; there are questions on what will happen next.

Will There Be A Dutton Ranch Season 2?
Yes! The Season 2 renewal announcement was made on Wednesday, June 24.
The good news was highly anticipated as Dutton Ranch has quickly become a fan-favorite series with a whopping 89 percent Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes. However, there is not much information readily available about what Rip’s and Beth’s next chapter will contain.
Who Is Chad Feehan On Dutton Ranch?
Chad Feehan was the showrunner for Season 1 of Dutton Ranch, and left the series prior to its premiere. Prior to Dutton Ranch, Feehan has worked on numerous television series. He was a creator and writer for Lawmen: Bass Reeves, and a writer for episodes of Southland, Banshee, and Ray Donovan. Feehan is also credited as a writer for movies such as Paranormal Activity 4, Beneath the Dark, and the short film, Imitations.
Dutton Ranch Season 2 Showrunner Change: Kelly Reilly And Cole Hauser Weigh In
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, stars/EPs Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser commented on Feehan’s exit from the series. “Showrunners change all the time,” Hauser said. “This business is about adapting. We’ve been doing this for a long time. Things change. People move on.”
The interview took place prior to the Season 2 renewal, but Reilly added that, “We don’t have a season two yet. We finished [Season 1] with Chad beautifully. We finished this season together. It was a really difficult but really satisfying show to make. And so was Yellowstone. So is anything worth making. We’re all creative minds and we all work together and I’m so proud of that. But if we get a season two, we don’t make those decisions.”
Rielly and Hauser are both credited as executive producers of the show, and revealed there wasn’t much of a break between Yellowstone‘s ending and preparations for Dutton Ranch. “It felt quick,” Hauser told the outlet. “Also, when you’re a part of the beginning, middle and end of a show, but certainly the beginning, we were thrown into: ‘How do we create this new world? How do we tell it in a different way? How do we continue to keep the consistency of the characters, but move them into a new place where there are challenges and new landscape and new people to deal with?’ So it was a lot. We put on the EP [executive producer] hat, but we took on the challenge and hopefully they all enjoy it.”
When Is Dutton Ranch‘s Finale?
The finale of Dutton Ranch will air on Friday, July 3 on the Paramount network at 8 p.m. ET, but will be available for streaming on Paramount+ earlier the same day at 3:01 a.m. ET.
