Netflix may be The Hunting Party’s best shot at season 3

The Hunting Party’s two-season run on NBC came to an end on June 2, 2026.

NBC revealed that they had canceled the crime drama, according to Deadline, but it’s not all bad news for fans of The Hunting Party. The series is officially being shopped to streamers and other networks, which means there’s a possibility that this show could continue.

Created by JJ Bailey, The Hunting Party premiered on NBC in January 2025. The show returned for a second season in January 2026. The series starring Melissa Roxburgh has already debuted on the streamer that should pick up the series for a third season. Of course, I’m talking about Netflix.

The Hunting Party season 1 was added to Netflix in February 2026, and it made quite a splash when it did. The series quickly climbed the ranks of the Netflix Top 10, as Netflix viewers watched the series for the first time.

Unfortunately, Deadline reported that the Netflix bump didn’t necessarily lead to more viewership and higher ratings on NBC, but it did make a smaller impact on Peacock throughout the show’s second season. It was the No. 3 show in streaming minutes behind The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer after the first season was released on Netflix, ahead of The Pitt. The bump wasn’t big enough to save the series on NBC, but that’s a totally different ballgame than what Netflix is playing.

Netflix doesn’t have a much bigger slate of TV shows than NBC and Peacock. Netflix doesn’t need to worry about pulling a big enough rating to justify a timeslot. It’s a much simpler, at least on the surface, calculation for Netflix to see if the viewership and value a series adds to the platform offsets the cost of the series.

Netflix is the only streamer that makes sense to save The Hunting Party

Netflix also has a history of picking up NBC shows and other broadcast shows and turning them into even bigger hits, including Lucifer, Manifest, and others. Not all of those acquisitions have paid off at Netflix. Designated Survivor is the latest example that didn’t live up to the hype.

Still, Netflix has the reach and viewers to justify taking a swing on a canceled show like The Hunting Party. There’s a chance if Netflix were to add the second season, which just came to an end about a month ago on May 7, we could see even more fans who just watched season 1 jump on the bandwagon for season 2.

So far, we haven’t heard if Netflix is actually interested in The Hunting Party, but we’re not expecting to right now. Netflix is always looking for ways to improve, and if that means adding a show like this, then I’m sure they would consider it, especially with other hit crime shows like The Night Agent and The Lincoln Lawyer ending soon.

Of the streamers, Netflix is really the only streamer that makes sense as a possible home for The Hunting Party. As Deadline noted, The Hunting Party just didn’t make sense as a Peacock original series. Hulu is on its last legs. Disney+ doesn’t make much sense, nor does Apple TV.

Prime Video is interesting, but The Hunting Party isn’t really their brand. Netflix has had a ton of success saving shows that have a decent but not huge following and turning them into hits.

We’ve also seen Netflix have success with other “Hunting” shows. The Hunting Wives just became a Netflix original series for season 2 after a monster opening on Netflix last summer. Perhaps, The Hunting Party could follow that trend.

Now, it’s not time for The Hunting Party fans to sit back and just hope Netflix saves the day. If you want The Hunting Party to get picked up by Netflix, you should be letting Netflix know on social media and through their website. You should be watching the older seasons on Netflix. You should be letting other people know how good this show is. That’s how you save a show.

We’ll continue to share updates about The Hunting Party and its potential future at Netflix. Stay tuned!
