Now Emmy nominee Sharon Horgan is chasing her Youth in a new HBO comedy series, in which she stars, writes, and executive produces.
Horgan plays Alex, a 50-year-old divorced woman, struggling to balance her search for love and sex, while dealing with aging parents and a troubled college-aged son.
“I need to meet someone now,” she says in the trailer, which was just released by HBO. “I think I’ve got like 10 years left as a sexual person.”

The official logline says: “Youth follows a 50-year-old divorcee’s search for sex and love whilst juggling caring for her ailing parents and parenting her should-be grown up son.”
Who is in it?
Along with Horgan (Alex), the cast includes Rupert Friend (Patrick), Sharlene Whyte (Sam), Aran Murphy (Ruari), and Robbie Gee (Frank). Youth is produced by Merman (Amandaland, Bad Sisters, Vladimir), with executive producers Faye Dorn Jim Kleverweis, and Dawn Shadforth.
What are its awards prospects?
Horgan has been nominated for four Emmy Awards — twice as lead actress in Apple TV’s Bad Sisters, and twice for writing (Bad Sisters and Catastrophe). Given the show’s September premiere, up first she’ll be competing in the winter TV Awards cycle, where she’s been nominated in the past for a Critics Choice Award for acting (Bad Sisters) and twice for Writers Guild Awards for Bad Sisters.
When can I see it?
Youth will premiere on HBO with the first two episodes on Sept. 20 at 10pm on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max. New episodes of the eight-episode season will follow weekly on Sundays, concluding with the season finale on Nov. 1.
