“Insidious: Out of the Further” director Jacob Chase is set to direct the horror project “Sleepover” for Blumhouse Atomic Monster and Universal Pictures. Described as the “quintessential sleepover nightmare,” it’s set for an Oct. 8, 2027 theatrical release.
Chase directs from a screenplay co-written with “Night Swim” screenwriter Bryce McGuire, adapted from McGuire’s original short story.
Blumhouse Atomic Monster also presented Chase’s “Insidious: Out of the Further” along with Sony. The sixth installment in the “Insidious” franchise opened this past weekend to a solid $60 million worldwide. Chase has also directed “Come Play.”
Ahead of the “Insidious: Out of the Further” release, Chase told Variety, “Scaring people is kind of like magic — literally magic tricks — which is also something I had a real affinity for growing up,” he says. “It’s all misdirection, right? It’s figuring out how you can constantly surprise an audience in the way that the best magic tricks do.”
Jason Blum will produce, while Chase, McGuire and Bea Sequiera serve as executive producers. Lilly Tyson will oversee the project for Blumhouse Atomic Monster.
