The wait is almost over. Netflix has finally pulled back the curtain on the highly anticipated second season of Blue Eye Samurai, confirming that Mizu’s bloody quest for revenge will continue in January 2027.
Following a steady drip-feed of information throughout the year, including early production teases at Annecy 2026 and now a massive slate update at this weekend’s Anime NYC, Netflix has officially kicked the hype train into high gear. Not only do we have a confirmed release window, but the streaming giant has also dropped a brand-new teaser trailer and two stunning first-look images setting up what’s to come.
Here is everything we learned from today’s massive drop, starting with the teaser trailer, which dropped on socials slightly ahead of the initially scheduled go-live time!
First Look Images: Mizu on the Move
We finally have our first visual taste of Season 2, and the animation looks just as breathtakingly gorgeous as it did in the Emmy-winning first season. The two new images dropped by Netflix give us a glimpse at a very determined—and very dangerous—Mizu.
In the first image, we see Mizu back in action (seen below), wielding her signature meteorite-forged blade. Bathed in the cool, moody blue light of what appears to be the lower decks of a ship or a shadowy London alleyway, her piercing blue eyes are locked onto an unseen threat. Her hair is tied back, and she’s sporting a dark blue robe over a lighter undergarment—a slight shift from her iconic Season 1 attire, perhaps teasing her attempt to blend into her new Western surroundings.

The second image (at the top) offers a stark contrast, showing Mizu in the harsh light of day (perhaps at sunrise or sunset). Standing on what looks like a wooden dock or the deck of a ship, her hair is blowing wildly in the wind, and she wears a furious, weary scowl. Whatever conversation she’s having with the mysterious figure in the foreground, it’s clear Mizu has no time for pleasantries. The journey across the globe has clearly taken a toll, but her resolve to hunt down the remaining white men who ruined her life hasn’t wavered.
The Teaser Trailer: Welcome to London
While it’s only a brief teaser, the newly released footage sets a grim, violently beautiful tone for Season 2.
The teaser picks up exactly where Season 1 left off, with Mizu and her captive, Abijah Fowler, enduring the treacherous sea voyage to London. We get sweeping, stormy shots of the ocean before the trailer transitions to the smog-choked, cobblestone streets of 17th-century London. The vibrant, autumnal colors of Edo-period Japan have been completely traded out for the harsh, industrial greys and muted brick-reds of England.
The footage is cut rapidly to the rhythm of a heavy, pounding drumbeat: Fowler flashing a sinister, knowing smile from behind iron bars; a brief glimpse of Akemi asserting her newfound power back in Japan; and finally, Mizu unsheathing her blade in a crowded, rain-slicked European tavern, immediately followed by a chaotic flash of blood and steel.
The teaser ends with a striking title card confirming what we’ve all been waiting for: JANUARY 2027.
When exactly in January 2027 will Season 2 drop?
While Netflix has confirmed the January 2027 window, they are keeping the exact date under wraps for now. Historically, Netflix likes to drop its prestige animated titles toward the middle or end of the month, so we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for a final date as we get closer to the end of the year.
This release window aligns perfectly with the updates we received earlier this year. Creators Michael Green and Amber Noizumi have been hard at work expanding the scope of the series, previously noting that animating the intricacies of 17th-century London—and designing an entirely new cast of European characters—required a massive amount of time and care.
