Brittany Snow joins ‘The Housemaid’s Secret’ cast: Everything to know

The call sheet for Paul Feig’s The Housemaid’s Secret is getting longer.

The Hunting Wives star Brittany Snow is the latest addition to the sequel, taking on the role of Marybeth. She joins Kirsten Dunst and returning lead Sydney Sweeney in the thriller, which adapts the second book in Freida McFadden’s best-selling novel trilogy.

Lionsgate previously announced that the follow-up will arrive just in time for the holidays, with a theatrical release set for Dec. 17, 2027.

Here is everything we know so far about The Housemaid’s Secret.

The plot

In The Housemaid, Millie is trying to escape her past and accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar) only for things to take a dark and dangerous turn. The end of the film hinted that Sweeney’s character may be moving on to a new family. In The Housemaid’s Secret novel, published in 2023, Millie returns, taking a job keeping house for a woman she’s never allowed to see — only to discover the truth behind the locked door that threatens to expose secrets far darker than her own.

The cast and creative team

The Housemaid’s Secret was greenlit in January 2026, while The Housemaid was still in theaters. Speaking to Gold Derby earlier this year, Feig said he was hopeful to return for the sequel — and beyond.

“That’s my dream. That is my full intention. We’ll see schedule-wise if we can make it work with everybody, but that is definitely the full intention,” he told us. “Look, there’s three-and-a-half books in the series. The problem with the third book [The Housemaid Is Watching] is there’s a big time jump, but there’s a novella [The Housemaid’s Wedding] in between those that could be expanded if you wanted to — but one at a time.”

Within weeks, however, Feig was confirmed to be back alongside Sweeney, with Kirsten Dunst announced as the co-lead.

“It is a privilege to bring The Housemaid’s next chapter to the screen with Kirsten Dunst,” said Erin Westerman, president of Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Group. “She is an icon. Her career reflects extraordinary range and fearlessness. Opposite the ever-magnetic Sydney Sweeney, she will be an electrifying force in a world where nothing is ever quite as it seems.”

“It’s clear from both the global box office and from the outpouring on social media that audiences have responded strongly — and audibly — to the totally unique and truly theatrical experience of The Housemaid and want to know what happens next,” said Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson. “We believed in these stories from the very beginning, and we are beyond excited to bring the next chapter of Millie’s story to life on-screen in collaboration with our outstanding creative partners Todd, Paul, Laura, Carly, Alex, and Sydney. The Housemaid’s Secret is another wildly thrilling book in Freida’s series that has captivated readers worldwide, and we look forward to translating it into a similarly rousing and riotous moviegoing experience.”

Screenwriter Rebecca Sonnenshine, who adapted The Housemaid, will return to adapt the sequel for producers Todd Lieberman of Hidden Pictures, alongside Feig and Laura Fischer of Feig’s Pretty Dangerous Pictures who are also returning as producers, with Hidden Pictures’ Carly Elter and Alex Young and Sweeney executive producing.

“It’s been thrilling to see audiences around the world fall in love with The Housemaid and the incredible work of our talented cast and crew,” said Feig. “We’re lucky that Freida McFadden has already extended Millie’s journey on the page, and that we get to work with Rebecca Sonnenshine and Lionsgate to bring this next story to audiences.”

What about Amanda Seyfried?

No word yet on whether Seyfried will return given that her character’s not in the book, but Seyfried told Gold Derby earlier this year she wants to figure out a way to make it happen. “I know Freida and Paul are on board,” she said of a potential return. “I know the whole studio is on board too, to make that make sense. I just have to see it to believe it. I don’t know what it’s going to be, but I’m going to be on that set either as a visitor or as an actor.”

The release date

The Housemaid’s Secret will arrive in theaters two years after the original, on Dec. 17, 2027.

This story was originally published on Jan. 6 and updated on March 23, March 30 and Aug. 4.
