Netflix’s massive summer push into licensed Japanese television is showing no signs of slowing down. We’ve just learned that Netflix has picked up the international SVOD rights—including in the United States—to the gripping new Fuji TV legal thriller Black Trick: The Lawyer Who Controls Justice.

New episodes of the series will begin dropping weekly on Netflix globally starting Thursday, August 6th, 2026.

The acquisition continues what has been an absolutely stacked year for J-Drama fans on Netflix. Black Trick joins an expanding slate of weekly licensed Japanese dramas arriving on the platform this summer, slotting in perfectly alongside the quirky airport customs thriller Gate24: The Border (arriving August 2nd), as well as recent weekly favorites like Loved One, 25 Years of You, and The Vacation Principle.

Here is everything you need to know about the new legal thriller coming to Netflix this August.

What is Black Trick: The Lawyer Who Controls Justice about?

Produced by Fuji TV, Black Trick (known domestically as Burakku Torikku: Sabaki wo Ayatsuru Bengonin) is a completely original legal entertainment series centering on a dangerously charismatic “dark hero”.

Set in a modern society where public opinion is easily manipulated by the internet and the media, the story follows Naoto Uramawashi, an eccentric genius who operates as both a brilliant lawyer and a first-class architect. When innocent people are branded as criminals and powerful figures fabricate evidence to escape punishment, Naoto steps in. Using his architectural firm as his own private task force, Naoto fights back by designing elaborate “false blueprints” and meticulously planned deceptions to dismantle his enemies’ lies and expose their inconsistencies. His philosophy? If justice is being crushed by lies, he is perfectly willing to use lies to protect it.

The 11-episode series is directed by Toshiyuki Mihashi (Asagao – Forensic Doctor, Confidence Man JP), Yuta Shimohata, and Toru Hayashi, with a script from Hisao Yoshitaka and Sayaka Shito.

Who stars in Black Trick?

Leading the cast is Japanese rock icon and actor GACKT. This marks GACKT’s Fuji TV drama debut, as well as his first-ever lead role in the network’s coveted Monday 9 PM “Getsuku” prime-time drama slot.

Starring alongside GACKT in supporting roles are:

  • Mirai Shida as Yukari Aso
  • Fuju Kamio as Kota Habu
  • Junki Tozuka as Shuhei Sabayama

The series is rounded out by Terunosuke Takezai, Maya Miura, Hiro Harumoto, Kanato Tsukishiro, Yasufumi Hayashi, and Kurara Emi.

When do new episodes drop on Netflix?

Black Trick: The Lawyer Who Controls Justice premiered domestically in Japan on Fuji TV on Monday, July 20th, 2026. Netflix Japan began streaming the series locally just a day later on July 21st.

For international subscribers (including the US, UK, Canada, and beyond), Netflix has secured the global streaming rights and will begin dropping episodes starting Thursday, August 6th, 2026. Following the premiere, new episodes will continue to arrive regularly beginning Thursday.
