Starz Hit Series ‘Power’ and Its Spinoffs Are Headed to Netflix for the First Time

The Power universe is about to take over Netflix. Following a tease on Netflix’s social media channels, a massive licensing agreement between the streaming giant and Lionsgate Television has been confirmed, bringing the critically acclaimed Starz crime franchise to Netflix US for the first time, and distributing its spinoffs to most of the world.

The news dropped today with an initial tease via Netflix’s social channels, quickly followed by a comprehensive report from Deadline outlining the full scope of the multi-series pact. Beginning this November, one of the biggest premium cable hits of the 2010s will make its way to the streamer.

However, exactly what you get to stream depends entirely on where you live. Here is a breakdown of what to expect from this monumental Lionsgate deal.

What’s Coming to Netflix US?

If you are in the United States, Netflix has acquired the domestic rights to the original mothership series, Power.

For those unfamiliar, Power was created by Courtney A. Kemp in collaboration with Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson. It follows James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), a ruthless New York City drug kingpin who desperately wants to go straight and leave the criminal underworld behind to run a legitimate nightclub.

For years, all six seasons of Power (comprising 63 episodes) have been licensed out to Hulu, where they have streamed since 2017. Come November, that arrangement ends, and the flagship series will officially jump to Netflix US.

Note: Starz remains the exclusive US streaming home for all the Power spin-offs. Only the original flagship series is coming to Netflix US.

What’s Coming to Netflix Internationally?

If you live outside the US, the deal is incredibly expansive. Netflix has acquired the non-exclusive international rights to the first four series in the Power franchise.

Beginning in November (with exact dates varying market to market based on existing local agreements), international Netflix subscribers will be able to stream:

  • Power (All 6 Seasons)
  • Power Book II: Ghost (All 4 Seasons)
  • Power Book III: Raising Kanan (All 5 Seasons)
  • Power Book IV: Force (All 3 Seasons)

There is one notable exception: Canada is excluded from this deal, as the franchise continues to stream there on Starz via its partnership with Bell Media. It’s also worth noting that because these are non-exclusive international rights, Lionsgate can still license the shows to other platforms in your region alongside Netflix. Upcoming new offshoots, such as Power: Origins and Power: Legacy, are not included in the Netflix deal.

A Familiar Show for Some Netflix Subscribers

While Power has never streamed on Netflix in the United States, international subscribers have been treated to Power before, well, at least those in the UK.

For years, Power was distributed internationally by Netflix. In fact, it was marketed exclusively as a Netflix Original in the UK, where the streamer carried the exclusive first-run rights. During its peak years, Netflix UK subscribers were treated to next-day weekly episode drops for Season 4 and Season 5.

However, that long-standing international arrangement eventually came to an end. Once Starz began expanding its own international streaming footprint (via Lionsgate+), the licensing rights expired, and all six seasons of Power left Netflix UK in August 2023.

Now, following the corporate split between Lionsgate and Starz in May 2025, Lionsgate Television is licensing the franchise back to Netflix globally in a much larger capacity.

The Success of Nemesis Paved the Way

Bringing the Power universe to Netflix is a fitting move given the streamer’s ongoing relationship with series creator Courtney A. Kemp.

Following the massive success of the Power universe, Kemp signed a highly lucrative multi-year overall deal with Netflix back in 2021 to develop new projects. That partnership bore fruit with the release of the hit series Nemesis.

As we’ve covered here at What’s on Netflix, Kemp has been deeply involved in building her new home at the streamer. We previously had the chance to sit down and talk with the creators of Nemesis about building out that new world. While it was recently announced that Kemp would be stepping down as showrunner for Nemesis Season 2, fans of her work can rest easy knowing the show was officially renewed by Netflix and remains moving forward.
