Where you can finally see Seth Green’s long-lost ‘Star Wars: Detours’

One of the legendarily “lost” Star Wars series will finally be excavated from George Lucas‘ vaults.

Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con on Thursday, Seth Green and his producing partner Matthew Senreich announced that their long-lost Star Wars Detours — an animated goof on the galaxy far, far away — will finally be exhibited at the Lucas Museum of Narrative Art when that institution’s doors open in September.

Green and Senreich were part of a Comic-Con panel touting the new Los Angeles landmark that also featured moderator Keke Palmer, comics icon Jim Lee (currently the president, publisher, and chief creative officer of DC Comics), and the museum’s senior curator, Ryan Linkof.

Lucas approached Green and Senreich to make Star Wars Detours after the duo’s Emmy-winning animated series Robot Chicken so effectively skewered the space saga. The project was announced to much fanfare at Star Wars Celebration in 2012. As Green recounted on stage at the time, “Lucas was sitting at a desk and said, ‘You guys think you’re pretty f–king funny, don’t you? So, how about we do something funny together?'”

“He wanted to make The Simpsons in the Star Wars universe,” Green elaborated at the Comic-Con panel. Senreich added: “This is something we got to make with George, and he had his hands all over it.”

Set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, Detours featured key characters from across the franchise, with stars like Anthony Daniels (C-3PO), Billy Dee Williams (Lando Calrissian), and Ahmed Best (Jar Jar Binks) reprising their roles. A total of 39 episodes were completed, but were shelved following Disney’s acquisition of Lucasfilm. Kathleen Kennedy told Green and Senreich that the company wanted to focus on relaunching Star Wars with the sequel films, and she felt a comedic cartoon would undermine that strategy. So Detours was locked away in the Disney Vault, presumably forever.

As recently as last year, Green seemed resigned that the series would never see the light of day. “Detours itself would have to be edited, upgraded — they’d have to do new work on it to make it possible to put it on streaming. I just don’t think they’re willing to commit the spend to update and release this when they can’t see a clear benefit,” he told ComicBook.com in February 2025.

But with the launch of the Lucas Museum on Sept. 22, Detours will be seen at last. “There’s going to be a curation of episodes from that show on display for the public,” Green said. “I’m just excited for people to get to see it.”
