Every day, Rick Devens continues to demonstrate why, out of more than 750 total Survivor castaways, he was plucked by the Big Brother casting department to compete on Season 28. Not only did he win the Week 2 Head of Household competition, but he also snagged the Power of Veto medallion and is now taking aim at his Toolshed alliance’s No. 1 threat, Rome Seymour.
Rick may have nominated Jason “Messy Bitch” De Puy, Lyric “I Was On American Idol” Medeiros, and Melody “Corporate Game Show Host” Morris for eviction on Friday, but Rome was his true target. Not only is Rome a huge physical and social threat, but he’s the leader of the other side of the house, and Rick intends to cut off the head of that snake.
After Rick won the Veto, he officially put his backdoor plan in motion. He removed Lyric from the chopping block on Monday afternoon and named Rome as the renom, setting the stage for an epic showdown on Thursday night.
Hours before the Veto meeting took place, Rick pulled Rome aside and informed him about what was coming. “I’m sorry and you’re welcome,” he said flatly. The two “R’s” started the summer respecting each other’s games, but after Angela Murray noticed Rome was rallying the troops, she got in Rick’s ear and helped influence his decision to backdoor Rome.
Rome and Lyric have been in a hot-and-heavy showmance since Day 2, so Rick’s move would also ensure that a power couple is split up. But is their love affair common knowledge to the rest of the houseguests?
Last week, evictee Ashley Trail told Gold Derby, “To my eyesight, they’re out in the open. But maybe that’s just because I’m in the pod rooms, she’s my bunk mate, and I’m hearing every little inch that they make. To the rest of the house, I don’t know that it is so obvious, but even if it is, it sounds like nobody really cares. Nobody’s threatened by the showmance, which is so shocking to me.”
Immediately after the Veto meeting, Lyric tried to comfort Rome by giving him lots of kisses and speaking in a baby voice. “Don’t waste it,” Rome whispered to Lyric about her newfound safety. “Keep playing your game. Keep winning. ‘Cause right now, you’re doing great.”
Rome, Jason, and Melody have one last chance to save themselves during the Block Buster competition on Thursday night. The winner will be removed from the block, and the house will then vote live to send one of the remaining two nominees back home.
