Christopher Nolan‘s The Odyssey is making big numbers at the box office, but don’t expect his next film to be released anytime soon.
The filmmaker recently revealed that it’ll be “at least” three years before audiences see another of his works on the big screen.
In an interview with Today, it was noted that Nolan has been releasing a new film about every three years, with Oppenheimer opening in 2023, Tenet in 2020, Dunkirk in 2017, and Interstellar in 2014. Nolan confirmed that three years would be “at least” the time it would take to make his next film.
Working on the adaptation of Homer’s as a writer, director, and producer pushed him to his limits, telling the NBC morning show, “I definitely hit the limits of my own stamina and everybody’s stamina, I think. I mean, it’s The Odyssey, of course it should be difficult. We’re not doing the job right making a film of The Odyssey if it doesn’t seem difficult.”
For The Odyssey, Nolan made history by shooting it entirely on IMAX 70 millimeter film, explaining, “I went to IMAX, and I said, ‘Look, if ever we are going to fulfill this dream of shooting the entire movie that way, this is the one. This is The Odyssey.”
The Odyssey is already in theaters and is set to open to $257M+ worldwide, his best global opening since The Dark Knight Rises (2012), which opened with $249M.
The film is out in theaters and stars Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and many more.
